The most impressive thing was the confidence that a patch up team of young players showed from the get go. I'd heard but never seen half of the pack but, led by Whyte, they were devastating against a settled professional group that is the Penrith engine room and whom Easts have not bested in years. Is it possible to maintain that form? Given the limited experience probably not but what they are capable of is clear on last night's result.
It's always exciting when a new young forward emerges and last night we saw several.

Regardless, that will be a great lift for the all the rookies and give them boost in self belief.

It seemed like the teams attitude was switched on for most of the game last night ,which generally isn’t the case.
You could see it in their defence and application throughout the game..
Amazing what a team can do when all are on the same page and focused on a game plan!
Easier said than done though..
Go Easts!

Fascinating how long a week is in rugby league.
the Broncos were woeful last year, and after hammering an understrength Roosters in round 1, they were basically declared premiership favourites by a lot of people. The Roosters were seen as spoon-worthy.
Now the Chooks have beaten the 4-peat Premiers, and the Broncos are (predictably) being belted from pillar to post by the Raiders.
The Manly bubble has burst as well, and the other spoon contenders, the Warriors, had a great win.
I feel like people usually take the first couple of rounds with a grain of salt, but it seems like people were very happy to read into one round of results - declaring Brisbane a season powerhouse, etc - based on one single game.
And by the same token, I won’t get carried away with last night, or put a line through the Broncos. We’ll know where everyone stands by round 10… expect for the Chooks ironically, as we’ll be soon to welcome back Walker and Smith lol.

I have to say as well, I really love watching Reece Walsh play - he’s a mile a minute and a joy to see him move. With that said, I’m glad he isn’t in our team. He was diabolical for them in ours games against the Broncos last year, and he’s having a similar start to this way. Way, way too many unnecessary errors. Ponga clears him by a long shot for QLD jersey.
