Billy Smith is a gun when fit it's actually a nice problem to have on who to play with all the injuries we've got.

I don't think we need him at all to be honest. All 5 players in the backline are better than him and there is no high anxiety about one of them going down 20 minutes in and us having to have Zack Dockar-Clay play an entire game at centre or something.

I'd keep him as injury depth, he might get a run during Origin this year if NSW picks Tedesco.

very unlikely all of our current 3/4s are injury free for the rest of the season so having billy back and playing well is great

Great issue to have need good depth and it is thin after Billy and pauga - all rookies
question if one of the back 3 get injured do you leave Marky N at centre or move him to the wing and bring Billy in? Feels like Marky would move to the edge?

Geez I feel for Billy. He undoubtedly works hard. He’s just either extremely unlucky or is just genetically predisposed to soft tissue injuries. There is a reason why the Roosters continue to re-sign him. Aside from the injuries he is the full package. In terms of raw attacking ability I actually believe he’s on par with Joey Manu. Just in a more classical sense. And defensively he is very good. Reads well. Covers the ground well. And has a textbook style. I know this is just words but I think he’d be the left centre for NSW right now if he had a normal injury history and had played 80% of games like most other centres his age.

It was great to see him back on the park. The move he put on Blaize Talagi for his try was a thing of rugby league beauty. Made him look like a local third grader.

Tough to pick him ahead of Nawaqaniatawase who was excellent both sides of the ball. Should’ve had a second try if Todd Smith hadn’t have called held prematurely (even though it was simultaneous with the rake). But I think if I had to pick a GF team to play against the best I’d have Nawaqaniatawase on the wing for Young and Billy at left centre). Young is too inconsistent for mine. If that last play was run at his edge he would’ve turned in. No way I can see him making the play that Toups did.

Gotta agree with everything you’ve said. When fit, on par with Manu in attack, but runs rings around him in defence. He’s had enough injuries for 3 careers, so let’s hope he starts getting a bit of luck.
