Gees I remember Roosters folk sitting behind us at the 2013 GF saying that if that long neck so and so was ever signed by the Roosters they would never buy season tickets/ membership packs or support the Roosters ever again - maybe some of those folk are on here?

I didn't agree with the Lodge signing nor Fifita or Hunt's

Has the club come out and said anything to confirm any intentions to sign him in this DCE media circus/brouhaha with up to 10 clubs being linked to DCE - handwritten notes/subterfuge and what not?

The word is, if DCE leaves Manly he will be a Doggy as they have a better chance of winning a comp in this 2-year period.

Do you think the players below will be happy to hang around until 2028 or longer for a shot at playing NRL full-time though - the best part of 3 years?
    • Toby Rodwell - 2028 -22 in 2028
    • Jake Elliot - 2027–23 in 2028
    • Hugo Savala - 2027–25 in 2028
    • Reece Foley - 2027–23 in 2028
Ethan Strange and Jacob Preston, for instance, signed with clubs that provided them with a shot of playing NRL full-time, which the Roosters couldn't offer them at the time. - A few others as well.

Both Sam and Sandon are signed to 2027 - no guarantee they will extend past 2027 either. So they will have to offer those 4 or so above incentives to stay in case either Sam or Sandon or both leave at some point - monetary incentives at least during that run up to 2028.

Folk on here are banging on regularly about the lack of succession planning especially with a raft of players known to be leaving.

They would in a pickle if a lot of these players left for better NRL playing opportunities elsewhere as years of training and development have been put into them - they would have to start all over again.

A short-term gain could also end in long-term pain.

    The Domino Affect

No DCE will not be a doggy....he will be a Rooster.

    2yr deal for $2.2 million.

Coach Robinson wants him & thats all that matters...or dont you support Coach Robinson on this?

Apparently coach Robinson & upper management don't think those young guys can do the job & a older wiser head is needed.

Was Manly's initial offer around $400k a year?

      • Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But for me - no thanks to DCE.

I just want him to grab my jewels on fan day, like all the boys do to the bench before they go on. Great way to rev up the team and teach those guys who gifted us the win a few years back over some rainbow love that it's far less harmful to society than problem gambling (which they are ironically not opposed to).

And he's done nothing at SOO level as well - can't recall him beingt MOM or the reason that Queensland ended up winning a series recently.

At 38 or 39 years of age I can't see him doing anything useful for the Roosters either - I bet he won't do anything to make us premiership contenders, despite what other people are saying.

My tip is that he is more likely to be considered for NSW Cup next year - his time as a first grader has well and truly passed.

This is going to be another Roosters recruitment blunder , in a long list of recent disappointments.
I don’t think anything you mentioned is true
            - manly have been in the top 4 and finals for many of rhe last few years
            - qld won in 2020 with the worst SOO side along with 2022 and 2023 despite being underdogs in both series
            - he is 36 and providing he has a good squad with him and a spine of Robson, DCE, Walker and Teddy is a prem winning one
            - nsw cup? He is still in the top 3-4 no 7s in the comp
            - not a recruitment blunder at all - players like this don’t become available often

Things have been rocky at Manly since mid last year & the Chooks have been monitoring things since then & now its come to a head...

              This hasn't happened overnight.

All i can say is i know someone who knows someone....this is probably where i will now cop s##t from people about being full of it but i don't care.

              The deal is almost done.

I will be very surprised if he doesn't join the chooks.

              I will say no more.

DCE is a good guy. He will be great addition.

The 10 years since he signed the 10 year @1 Million a season contract hasn't resulted in 1 premiership and wont in 2025 either - signed that deal in 2016.

It's Ben Hunt like results - Dragons paid him close to 1 Million a season for all those years - Luke Brooks another highly paid player at the Tigers

Yes it's a team sport but the pressure is on the marque players to produce the results and premierships for the money they are on. - That's what the fans want

Can't see any up's in signing a 37 year old for 2 years and stalling the NRL development of Sam Walker / Sandon Smith as a halves pairing plus others underneath these two who will be developed to be NRL ready- i.e Toby Rodwell / Hugo Savala / Jake Elliot / Reece Foley.

Worst case scenario is you lose all 4 up an comers who maybe NRL ready during this period and don't want to wait any longer in nailing down a NRL halves role and Sam and or Sandon who sign with other teams as Daly has taken their place - your back to square one then,

                The Domino affect.

A daft decision by the club if Daly is signed

Leave the decision making to those who know more than you mate. If they decide to recruit DCE then that is their decision not yours. If you don’t agree why don’t you go and coach the Roosters. Oh that’s right….. you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Isn’t that what you say to all of us who criticise the recent recruitment

I rang my Uncle and we spoke about the upcoming Greek Easter.

Long story short. His intel can be let's say very good. He said there was a big name signing coming our way and then left it at that. I automatically thought it was Ponga.

                  • Let’s just hope our recruitment can get the job done
with DCE backflip history, Fifita last year, and then missing hunt, Johnson and gagai we need to get a big fish over the line

There was talk about a Roosters player going to Manly but that's unlikely now.

Anyway...it's interesting times at the chooks atm.

I get people's doubt about his age...but what DCE will bring in experience & leadership will be very valuable.

Umm there's a fair bit to unpack there.

Might need to sleep on it & get back to you.

Key will be to quickly build a team that's ripe and ready to have a serious crack by 2027.

We are a much better team with Watson at 13. No point limiting his time by having him on the bench.
