I thought Luai was overated until watching him play last year being the main playmaker with Cleary being away
before that he was kind of a passenger

    they will replace him eventually

interesting to see if JFH fades away being with the warriors

Dunno about "passenger" he spent most of his time taunting opposition forwards with that will'o'the wisp speed, kicking and foot wok creating gaps all over the place. That he is a leader as well was not all that apparent until last Sunday.

Luai's Origin series last year should have put everyone on notice that he's the real deal. Or is capable of being the real deal anyway. He's also a bit of a grub and gets bogged down in the niggle (Latrell esque). That's something that might get in the way of going to the next level for his club. The red mist overcomes him.

        I do like him though.

Be good to see him step up.

I think Sandon is destined to either being a backup half somewhere, a bench utility or Super League.
Coach Robinson does though - If Johnson was correct it was only as a back up and Hunt a dual role half until Walker came back and then Dummy Half one assumes since Brandon Smith was on the outer.

Yes Sandon 22 and 31 games and a fair chunk from the bench - ridiculous to think he has to be some sort of SOO type player so early in his career - I know it's the times of instant access and instant success but sport is not like that.

Sometimes you have the early success in your sporting career - Leyton Hewitt for instance - number 1 at 20 for 80 weeks

Or later - Steve Waugh when playing International cricket early on had ups and many downs at such as young age - averaging around 22 or or so in Test Cricket when he got dropped - came back and finished averaging 51.06 in Test Cricket

Master you do know the meaning of approximate or is your education somewhat lacking - maybe that word is not in one of the recipes you are attempting to replicate, i.e. approximately 300 grams of flour/butter or whatever it is.

We have all seen your signing suggestions and the prices you would pay - be a cap disaster - you wanted to sign Robson for 300 or was it 400k more than what the Roosters signed him for.

It's not Supercoach or Fantasy League

Now WWOS reporting on this story, apparently going to play the role Chad Townsend is playing this year as the experienced half to pair up with Walker.

Personally I'd rather him at 1 year but with his consistency and injury history (Barely anything) I think I'd take him on 2 if it was absolutely necessary. He is still an Origin player and top 5 for his position in the comp. Teddy, Walker, DCE and Robson is a premiership winning spine I think.

Does Coach Robinson though? Or is he just playing Sandon as Sandon is the best option for right now? I'm confident that Shaun Johnson wouldn't have been a reserve option, Ben Hunt wouldn't have played hooker either, that's something he has said publicly he doesn't want to do week in and week out at club level, if we are indeed chasing DCE then he won't be coming to play anything other than halfback either.

Sandon is now at 33 games, from my memory I think he's played maybe 2 or 3 good games for us. How much longer do you stick with a player hoping he comes good? 50 games? 100 games? This season has been his opportunity to stand up and show that he belongs in the Roosters halves but for the most part he's been ineffective and was outplayed by 34 year old reserve grader Chad Townsend last game.

                    https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/dal...24-p5lm56.html

Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans has informed the club this season will be his last for the Sea Eagles.

While the 36-year-old halfback has decided not to continue at Brookvale beyond this year, he will wait until later in the season before deciding whether to seek a contract elsewhere to play on in 2026.

Cherry-Evans is expected to address his future on Channel Nine’s 100% Footy on Monday night.

Cherry-Evans is still regarded as one of the NRL’s premier halfbacks and has started the year in stellar form. A number of rival NRL clubs are monitoring his situation in the hope he decides to play on into his 16th season.

A premiership winner in his first season at Manly in 2011, Cherry-Evans is also the incumbent Queensland captain and halfback, though he has yet to decide whether he will play State of Origin in 2025.

There has been speculation the Dragons, Roosters and Dolphins are among the clubs keeping tabs on Cherry-Evans.

Despite reports to the contrary over the past fortnight, Manly officials have said Cherry-Evans has not requested a two-year extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

Cherry-Evans is on a deal worth close to $1 million this year. He is still playing at a high level and remains arguably one of the top four halfbacks in the competition, alongside Nathan Cleary ($1.2 million), Mitchell Moses ($1.25 million) and Jahrome Hughes ($900,000).

The Sea Eagles have already spent big money on retaining the likes of Haumole Olakau’atu, Tolutau Koula, Jason Saab and Taniela Paseka, and have salary cap restraints in 2026.

Cherry-Evans met Manly officials over the off season to discuss his future. At the time, it was reported the Sea Eagles were working on a contingency plan for life after his departure.

That involved fullback Tom Trbojevic potentially moving into the five-eighth role, opening the door for young Tongan international Lehi Hopoate to move permanently to fullback. Hopoate has since signed an extension with the club.

Since debuting for Manly under Des Hasler in 2011, notching up a club record 333 games for the Sea Eagles.

Cherry-Evans has been a loyal servant to the club throughout his entire career, leading Manly to nine finals series, two grand finals and a premiership in his 14 seasons since debuting in 2011.

                    ----------------------------------------------------

                    From Sunday - SMH

Daly Cherry-Evans could be valued at less than $400,000 in the salary cap by the NRL next year if Manly want to re-sign him. But right now, the club privately believes he entered this year leaning towards giving the game away at the end of the season.

Manly insiders, not authorised to speak publicly, say Cherry-Evans has been told about a potential coaching job at the club, while media opportunities are also being put forward.

Expect a decision very soon as Cherry-Evans is a club man who does not enjoy the spotlight.

There has been a lot written and said about Cherry-Evans’ future. At this point, he has not yet made up his mind whether to play on in 2026. And that’s a long way from demanding a two-year extension to stay at Manly, as has been suggested in some areas. Neither the club nor DCE’s management say they have heard anything about demands for a two-year contract extension.

Some of the commentary about Cherry-Evans has gone down badly with those close to him.

Cherry-Evans is keeping things to himself, so the truth is not easy to extract. From what this column can ascertain, the club is completely aware of his position, that he is still contemplating his future.

Sources at the NRL, not authorised to speak publicly, tell me Cherry-Evans will not break the bank for the Sea Eagles, or another club, if he wants to play next year. The Eagles have been told he will be valued by the NRL at $400,000, or even less, on the salary cap.

That is in line with Ben Hunt and his valuation at the Broncos. Hunt, 34, was seen as a $650,000 player by the NRL. That would mean Manly would pick up a bargain buy if Cherry-Evans, 36, was to stay, particularly when compared to the monster $1.4 million-a-season deal Dylan Brown will earn in Newcastle.
The NRL can nominate a minimum figure for a player’s salary it will accept on the club’s salary cap, to avoid clubs being advantaged by a player agreeing to a contract significantly below market value. They won’t discuss publicly what the DCE figure is.

There are several other NRL clubs watching what Cherry-Evans does, and they will pay significantly more for a 12-month stint, which could be extended if he plays to the level everybody knows he can. DCE could earn in the order of $800,000 at rival teams if he shocked everyone and decided to test the market.

One of the clubs watching closely is the Roosters, who like DCE’s character and his relationship with their young half Sam Walker.

Cherry-Evans, who will be 37 by the start of next season, has shown no signs of slowing down, and with quality halfbacks thin on the ground in the NRL, he could make big money.

One thing that can’t be challenged is his commitment to a big year with Manly.

Sounds like he is either retiring or jumping ship to another club

if playing on I’m tipping the phins atm if he returns back to qld

although the old backflip 2.0 could be on the cards

I would take DCE at the Roosters 1000% for 2 years.
                        Sammy could play 5/8
