SS doesn'thave that yet but the whole outfit can benefit from DCE. Sure as shit we won't be going backwards.
Daly has been at Manly since 2008 - 2011 in NRL - Only 1 comp in 2011 when a youngster in a star studded Manly side.

The 10 years since he signed the 10 year @1 Million a season contract hasn't resulted in 1 premiership and wont in 2025 either - signed that deal in 2016.

It's Ben Hunt like results - Dragons paid him close to 1 Million a season for all those years - Luke Brooks another highly paid player at the Tigers

Yes it's a team sport but the pressure is on the marque players to produce the results and premierships for the money they are on. - That's what the fans want

Can't see any up's in signing a 37 year old for 2 years and stalling the NRL development of Sam Walker / Sandon Smith as a halves pairing plus others underneath these two who will be developed to be NRL ready- i.e Toby Rodwell / Hugo Savala / Jake Elliot / Reece Foley.

Worst case scenario is you lose all 4 up an comers who maybe NRL ready during this period and don't want to wait any longer in nailing down a NRL halves role and Sam and or Sandon who sign with other teams as Daly has taken their place - your back to square one then,

      The Domino affect.

A daft decision by the club if Daly is signed

      • I think DCE is very much about DCE, celebrates when he scores a try when manly are 20 points down at the end of a game, tells the club and fans on national tv he will not re-sign with them, accused of playing for stats on the field to increase his SuperCoach team.

Hell of a kicker, and very durable, but there is something I just don’t like about him. Cronk was 35 when he came to us, better leader on the field, DCE will be 37,I think it becomes a risky potential signing.

i hope we don’t sign him, but if we do, then hopefully he can get a CC medal after actually winning a premiership.

In my opinion Manly has never really had the players under contract to win a comp. Most teams that win the comp these days tend to have at least 3 marquee players in the spine, Manly often only has 2 and one of them in Tom Trbojevic rarely plays a full season. You also are ignoring his achievements away from Manly such as all the success with Australia and Queensland, the Churchill he won in 2013, being a regular part of representative footy for the past 15 years etc, this is a superstar of the game whether he's only won the one premiership or not.

Your upside in signing a 37 year old for 2 years is you're getting an experienced consistent player who is still good enough to play representative footy. He's one of the top 5 halves in the comp and we urgently need a half, mentorship, experience and legitimately being a top tier player are all reasons we need him.

To be blunt, Sandon Smith isn't going to offer that, Rodwell, Savala, Elliot and Foley won't either, if you go with them then we're minimum 5 years away from winning a comp. Sign DCE this year and fill a couple of other holes and we're a legitimate contender for 2026. I assure you if Sandon Smith leaves over this he won't sign with the Panthers and become the next Nathan Cleary, as a matter of fact he'd probably be off playing for the Huddersfield Giants.

At this stage of his career it's not about money anymore...DCE is a good operator & has set himself up quiet well after footy.

If he stays in Sydney he'll be a Rooster.
Besides being an astute mentor to our young halves, Daly will one day become one hell of a NRL assistant/head coach.
Very well spoken and articulate too.

That's the value he brings to whichever club he lands at.

            Fingers crossed.

            • I reckon we can safely bet that if
DCE wants to keep playing then the Chooks are gonna go in hard to sign him.

For all this age stuff the bloke still plays Origin, rarely if ever misses a game and is not some misfit with a history of mayhem.

He'd be a massive benefit to us like I've said Robson, DCE, Walker and Teddy...what a spine !!!

              • Sandon Smith is a NSW Cup player or Super League at best. He is slightly better than the hack Lachy Lam. He will have the odd good game very occasionally but will always be targeted defensively and has the long kicking game of a teenage girl

DCE for 2 years would be ideal. We have carried one weak half for too long. Keary was non existent for a few years. Sandon just isn't up to scratch. DCE and Walker could give us a premiership immediately. How anyone wouldn't be excited by that is simply delusional.

Don't know if our window all of a sudden becomes open just by signing DCE and Robson unless there are a couple of other key signings with that excess cap we got from the guys who left.
Our young guys will take a couple of years to get to that elite level.

I am not against signing DCE for a couple of years but just concerned whether Walker would take that personally as he is not capable of doing the job.

I would love to see a bit of stability for Sandon and see how he goes with Walker in the second half of the season. That might be too late to make a decision with DCE but he did say he will wait until later in the year to make a decision.

                  • Sammy shouldn't get the hump IF DCE came. He should look at the massive benefits of being next to a elite half and what he can learn.

                    • I rate Sandon Smith unlike most on here - he will be damn good playmaker one day, he is still only 22 and has played about 10x games in his proper position ffs
People need to learn patience with young halves not every one is Sam Walker

It took Nathan Cleary at least 4yrs playing every game at #7 to look great, Penrith fans wanted him gone early in his career saying he was only in NRL because of his dad.
Or does everyone forget he debuted in 2016 and Panthers sucked until 2020?

In saying that, if DCE is available and wants to stay in Sydney we would be stupid to not look into signing him for 2yrs
Walker can play #6, learn off one of the best and we become an instant premiership threat
                      It's a no brainer.....

DCE should feel privileged if given the opportunity to play next to Sam Walker.

This is Walkers team and if DCE comes it should be as a secondary playmaker. His running game which was his strength has already deteriorated and so will the rest of his game.

DCE has never been a great organiser, the comparisons to Cronk are wildly misguided IMO. I respect immensely what he's done in the game but he's struggled to organise that Manly side unless Turbo is fit and they're scoring more than 20pts a game.

My biggest concern with signing DCE is it's very much an all or nothing play. Because there's a very good chance in 2yrs time both he and Teddy hang up the boots/move overseas. And then we are back to rebuilding our spine with a new fullback and 5/8 for another 12-24 months.

I also worry we lose Toby Rodwell, I just don't see someone of his talent hanging around in NSW cup for the next 2 and a half years.

People get upset when we lose talent like Ethan Strange... This is why. We would rather sign a 37/38 year old half than back our own talent halves.

Overall I'm a little on the fence about DCE, appreciate his quality and what he would bring with his years of experience and knowledge of the game but he's a deteriorating player who will block the path of our younger talent and is a band-aid fix.

                          • According to several articles the last few days the list of clubs linked to DCE is increasing at a rapid rate - Manly still trying to re-sign him
                            • Bulldogs
                            • Roosters
                            • Rabbitohs
                            • Eels
                            • Panthers
                            • Dragons
                            • Titans
                            • Broncos
                            • Dolphins
                            • Cowboys

Roosters chairman Nick Politis signed Townsend for a similar mentoring role, although he's leaning towards retiring at the end of 2025. WWOS quoted a 'senior Roosters official' as saying: "It's very hush hush at the moment and certainly no approach has been made. It may not even happen - but it is being discussed."

                            • People saying that Sammy Walker won’t be happy if the Roosters sign DCE only need to go back to his comments when we were looking at signing Ben Hunt..

Sammy was keen for Hunt to come on board as he mentioned the Club would be crazy not bringing someone of his talent and experience to the side,so imagine his thoughts regarding DCE..

Also in regards to Toby Rodwell,he is the future and signed until the end of 2028 so bringing in DCE for 2 years would only be a good thing for his development in my opinion..

We just beat the Panthers with *half* a team of our rookies.
Sandon was great, scored a good try.
