I don't know that Sam needs a lot of mentoring, his uniqueness is his greatest strength, hopefully he see's the benefit that having someone like DCE can have on his game though. Would hate to see him get his nose out of joint, and pearce off like someone else did.

A question could be how many seasons a team has to hit that 97.5% because in recent years we've seen teams like the Bulldogs and Tigers sign a lot of key players without losing any key players.
That's the Mystery of the Salary Cap.

All clubs need to submit contracts for scrutiny by the salary cap auditor folk to be registered and the NRL would have all this details of contract values of each clubs top 30 to know if clubs are at least spending the minimum 97.5% salary cap spend requirement.

How did those lower teams meet this requirement with few highly-paid players - obviously paying overs for players that would earn less in the middle to top clubs if ever signed.

" The Roosters have room in the salary cap to go after a big name, given that they’ve lost guys like Joseph Manu, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Luke Keary and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves" is misinformation as it somewhat gives the impression the Roosters are stockpiling salary cap funds to go on some sort of spending spree in the future which of course cannot happen - 97.5% min salary cap spend.

Either the journalist doesn't know how the salary cap works or is making the usual "Roosters Cap Sombrero" type remark - Buzz's columns, for instance - oh the Roosters squad is over the cap, but were not saying this is the case - why write the article then?

As you and I have pointed out, the loss of player value does not match the value of incoming players or even upgrades if payable in 2025, so one can only assume an unknown number of contracts are being front-loaded as they could never meet the 97.5 % minimum spend by internally promoting 6 NRL rookies to replace seasoned NRL players leaving on the money they were on.

          Salary Cap 101.

Time for the NRL to start publishing club and player contract values - they do this in major sports much bigger than the NRL - NFL/MLB/EPL, for instance,

          • I've been following the situation in the media closely and I know you have to take what they say with a grain of salt but from what I've seen the Bulldogs, Dragons and Titans are either out of the race for DCE now or never had any interest in him in the first place. That leaves us and the Dolphins as potential destinations for him.

I strongly feel it won't be the Dolphins, the media has stated that DCE and family are very happy living in the northern beaches, DCE wants to win a comp before he retires and is likely motivated by money. All of those things point to us as the Dolphins could offer a nice pay packet but the Roosters can also offer a nice pay packet, a potential comp win and not having to move, the Dolphins would have to pay massive overs to get him it seems.

            • We dont need DCE , something not right with this bloke , If we had instant success he'd get all the credit .
Commit and stick solid to the plan of youth and development . Robbo needs to keep the faith now and rejecting DCE would be a massive shot in the arm for our current crop of halves.
this is Robbos big chance to bolster his vision for the future and everyone is watching.

Robbo has already said we're interested at the absolute very least. I think the Roosters need 3 big signings for 2026 (Hooker, Halfback, Centre/Wing) so if we won a comp the credit would go to Robson, DCE and whoever else we got in the backline along with our top players.

We also need a prop but we could take a good bench prop and be fine I think.

                  • Don't think he's going to the Dolphins. That leaves us

Opinion here very divided. Thing is that this ub isn't going to go for a 2 or 3 year rebuild.

Even fans were expecting signings for next year.

At 37 even if DCE only plays a season I still reckon he can benefit blokes like SS as a proper halves coach. And SS still needs maybe another full season to develop his craft.

I'm on record saying DCE isn't a bad grab for us but I get why other folk are pissed.

Salvo I assume this 97.5% spent would be when the squad is finalised on June 30th. (Only because with players moving around during the season it would be hard to maintain).

                            • After rethink I would say at end of season, because players may be elevated into the squad due to injuries

                              • If we get DCE it will be a great signing… we instantly have one of the best 3 spines in the comp, a young pack that will be a year better and a all time great halfback mentoring our long term 7… not to mention any post career deal we offer him to help our future. We have plenty of money to spend and this is a good way to spend some of it.. nothing but positives here imo besides his age which I don’t think is as big of an issue as some make out.. guy plays like his 6 years younger than he is.

Sammy is only 22 and tbh I always thought he was abit too young to be given the reigns and pressure of leading the team.. DCE controlling and mentoring for 2 years would be great.. brings Sammy to around 25 when he takes over the team himself.. perfect age imo
