He's with us until the end of 2027 so he'll get a run at some point as injury depth. For this season it seems that Mark N can cover anywhere in the backline so Smith would come in at the preferred position immediately if anyone gets hurt/makes Origin.

The bloke is so injury prone though that you almost get anxious about it because if he did go down with an injury early in a game we'd really have problems.

This is why it's so important for Billy to string together a few games consistently playing the 80mins in NSW Cup first...it will do his confidence a world of good

      • Mark N has been a revelation so far. The Warriors first try was his fault, however. He didn't come off his line quickly enough.

That's something you probably wouldn't get from Billy Smith, but you also wouldn't get the attacking prowess that Mark N has.

If Smith is killing it in NSW Cup, I would be OK with him playing left centre, Mark N moving to right wing, and Dom Young having a stint in NSW Cup. He needs to work on his defence and carries. Makes 1000 metres a game, 950 of those across field.

        • marky's creating a lot of stuff at centre and him and toops have gelled. atm i'd stick with toia and young on the right but if billy knocks the door down then he's an option

I know I’m late to respond but how many of those games was Sandon Smith starting at halfback/five-eighth? I wager not many. Most of these games he came off the bench for minimal playing time. This is the first year where he has come into it as the starting, first choice halfback, and where he will get 80 minutes consistently. I just feel like he shouldn’t be judged on as quickly. The Penrith game alone at least showed he had the potential.
