On the point of tweaking tackling style. How many shorter players like Radley and Friend have ended up suffering multiple concussions by having to adjust their tackling style? IMO NRL had already overreached in not distinguishing between a shoulder charge vs players protecting themselves by bracing. Forcing Radley to tackle lower and ending up with far more concussions than he would have caused is a further overreach. I understand the NRL are trying to protect themselves legally but it will surely backfire on them with smaller players being able to prove an increase in concussions.
that's a good take on it - probably no reduction on concussions since the clamp down - just moved from the ball carrier to the defender.

walk away? get tapped on the shoulder? we've shown that we are very careful about protecting players' safety when it comes to head knocks and so if he was passed last night it was because he wasn't concussed.
let's leave it to the doctors.

Victor Radley out this week v Souths - cheekbone injury. Apparently not a fracture and has passed concussion protocols, one week out is the hope

Mmm seems a little odd doesn’t it?
no concissuon and no jaw injury / fracture or broken

wonder if it’s giving him time off after 3 head knocks in a row?
              Is there not too it?

Yea one. At the back end of the 2nd half of the 2019 GF, probably because bmoz gave the ref a gobful about it.

He needs to retire in my opinion.

If that’s the case then well handled by the club in all respects. Those spineless pricks in the media would have had it all over the newspapers and conjure up all sorts of stories.

I'm still in awe of how brave that guy was.

He was a big guy, but not that big. Didn't have the frame of a front rower, a much higher centre of gravity & without the bulk.

But damn, his carries for a second rower are still unmatched and better in quality than probably all the current props getting around. No self-preservation, and always up for the hard work.

Wish him the best of health and do hope that he lives a full and complete life with no adverse effects.

As for Victor, I think the Roosters medicos are quality and will give him a tap on the shoulder if it's needed. I also believe, based on our track record, that if they believe he is fine to play then he is legitimately fine to play.

Definitely possible his career will be cut shorter than it could be, but hopefully he gets a good year or two more. Given his passion for the game and club, he'll be dragged away kicking and screaming if it happened, thats for sure.

Sounds a bit strange....what else can you do to a cheekbone if you don't fracture it to miss a week.

                          Bruised?

Plus pain and swelling as well - cleared of a fracture - can take a few week to recover depending on the bruising plus pain and swelling - recovery is usually the old ice pack - applied several times a day

When Vic first came on the scene, he played well above his weight, especially in defence. I recall conversations at the time about him not being able to keep this up. It’s a brutal game and Vic plays on the bleedin edge. Tough cun
