Is it that hard to hold onto a rugby league ball? What shits me the most is its like a mandatory requirement after dropping the ball to give away a penalty....and its normally late in the tackle count....and its normally followed by a set restart late in the tackle count. Unfortunately we dont have the team to defend these mistakes like we did once. We gifted the wins to Souths,Titans and Rabbits this year because of this pattern.

We bang on here every week about our wingers being caught in field when defending. Everyone is blaming Dom Young for being out of position but it may be a case of him being told to be where he is.

Earth calling all in the Roosters coaching team....... every team knows that the Roosters play that up and in defence in a big way. Every teams halfback/5/8 and fullback are looking to shovel the ball through the hands out wide because they know the Roosters winger will be a good 6 metres in field leaving his opposing winger standing on the sideline with with thin air in front of him.

Its no bloody secret and because of that it's easy to attack against. Centres aren't that useless that they need a winger to come in and help defend- and if they are that useless they shouldn't be in first grade!

There is a lot to talk about from last night, but I really want to touch on how absolutely moronic this dropout rule is.
There is no reason to not do this. If you are ever forced into a dropout, you should always go short because there's probably a 40%-ish chance of getting the ball back. Maybe higher once players get better at it.

Watching Mitchell's horrendous kicks just dribble over the 10m is a bad look. Having to sit there and wait, and ensure you don't touch the ball like hot potato, but remain as close to it as possible - it's stupid.
I think it would much better if the kick receiving team could just grab the ball at any stage, where as the kicking team needs to wait for it to go the 10.

This would totally keep the short dropout option available, but stop those absurd examples that occur. Mitchell's second one was actually indefensible. There was no way for the kick receiving team to get the ball back with that horror bounce.

Yes usually I'd disagree because one needs to be adventurous in order to score points. However I reckon our two issues were:

1. Not just frigging holding the ball when we were up and Souffs lost both their halves. No penalties. No dropped balls... just calm the fark down!!!

2. The lack of decision making on our 3rd to 5th tackles. We had a LOT of kicks within their 20 that went absolutely nowhere. We didn't need super smart thinking, we just needed a decision as opposed to a delay followed by no decision (which unfortunately seems to be a feature of Chad right now). I've said it elsewhere but he just needed to decide where the ball was going and faaarkin do it. No need to trick them either!!! The ball's either going to Toops or Young. Not rocket science... sometimes the good old 'bigger, faster and stronger' technique works. All we needed was a simple pass to Young (don't over-complicate it for him or he'll either drop it or over-run the pass). Work to his strengths!!! If he has pace and is running a straight line then there's a serious chance he's either gonna crash over or slip a tackle. WORST CASE SCENARIO he gets tackled within the 10 and Souffs are stuck starting their set from within their 10. Not a terrible outcome when compared with giving them 7 from the 20 or a bit of space for some scattered/chaotic running.
