Sydney Roosters lose recruitment manager Clint Zammit The Sydney Roosters’ highly-regarded recruitment man Clint Zammit has quit the club mid-season.

The Sydney Roosters have been rocked by news that recruitment guru Clint Zammit has quit the club mid-season. Zammit, who is regarded as one of the best footy judges in the game, told Roosters boss Nick Politis of his decision on Tuesday. Zammit is returning home to Townsville to work for his old club the Cowboys in a move that is more for personal reasons.

His father is struggling with ill health and he wants to be there to support him. “I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity at the Roosters,” he said. “They are such a great club and I’m sure they’ll be in a position over the next few years to stay where they belong among the top clubs.” The Roosters’ recruitment has been under the spotlight with revelations they let Jacob Preston go to Canterbury and Ethan Strange escape to the Canberra Raiders.

There have also been questions marks on the signing of Brandon Smith and more recently Chad Townsend.

Feel sorry for his personal situation but I think we need fresh eyes on what's been poor retention and recruitment.

Probably pulled the trigger before being moved on anyway.

Sorry to hear about the circumstances but as others have said, might be a bit of a blessing in disguise also, no idea how long he was in the role for but our recruitment hasn't been great for about 5 years now so getting someone in who can potentially change that would be fantastic.

This is a big blow for the club, he's a big reason why we have been doing so well in the junior grades this season and why we will have a strong crop of juniors coming through for the next few years.

His success won't be felt for a few years, those associating current first grade recruitment/retention short comings with Zammit are misguided.

The first grade retention and recruitment is on the coach and Mitchell Aubusson not Clint Zammit. Rooster6 is right that it won't be felt for a few years down the line like it was when POS left and we had a big gap in talent coming through the grades.

Would the recruitment manager not be involved in the first grade recruitment also? If not, I retract my earlier post.

                  K. Well if he's the bloke not responsible for 1st grade recruitment and retention then I'll take my comment back.

Was he involved in the departure of:
May, Sitili, Strange, Preston, Duncan and losing so much experience and talent in one hit?
Was he involved in the recruitment of:
                    Cheese, Chad and Dom?
                    Just checkin.

Pretty sure it's mostly Robbo and Mitchell Aubusson doing the first grade recruitment and retention who is director of football or whatever title Gus had when Ricky Stuart was the coach back in the day plus whatever star signing Politis wants to make.

Who? Sacked? Doesn't seem like Robbo would be taking recruitment directives from this guy.

Yeah I'm not buying into their utterances about Cheese and Townsend (or suggesting that a bloke who focussed on our juniors would have anything to do with such decisions anyway). However, fresh eyes could help.

Dunno who's responsible but I'd see things like letting Hughes slip through our systems (and Manu. Sua'ali'i, Keary, JWH, Sitili...etc all leave within 1 year without a planned contingency other than 'I back Toia, Sandon and some young forwards to fill the void in their first full season') requires some reflection.

Punting Verrills for Cheese was also a strategic error. Again though... this bloke's job probably involved (for example) scouting Latrell, Manu, Sua'ali'i, Toia, Rads, Butcher, Wong, Whyte, Verrills, Watson, Sandon...etc so I suspect his record's pretty darn solid in terms of recruiting the right youngsters.

We need a change in recruitment in my opinion - I think it’s crazy to assume the recruitment manager wasn’t heavily involved in 1st grade recruitment.

Please! There is only one man who decides who stays and who goes at the Roosters.
You think Robbo woke up one morning and thought we should go get David Fifita?
