  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Broncos

I’m very much looking forward to seeing how local junior Savala handles the task tonight. Let’s just hope he can step up. This is a great opportunity for him to perform and cement a spot for the next couple of months at least. It’s not often our halfback is bigger than our front rower. I do like big halves.

We were humiliated and embarrassed in Round 1. They absolutely flogged us. Going to be a tough task tonight but our recent record at Suncorp is good and I do believe that we can give them a run for their money if we complete at a much higher rate than we have been.

The ambush could be on. Let’s hope they are feeling a little complacent after the Allianz smashing.

    Kick-off 8pm.

    Go Roosters!!

Massive opportunity for Hugo, this kid gives me confidence as you say he’s a local product.
Our defence has been great we can break the line offload bust tackles, but can we hold the pill complete high and show some discipline without the ball? If we can do those things we can beat these wankers.

    Go EASTS!

Someone mentioned that we werent playing that Taylor kid cause he isnt in the top 30. Can someone explain what that actually means? Why could he play against Panthers but not since?

We get to play the best team in the comp again within 6 weeks A big test for our self belief, which we got back after the Penrith game. Then squandered again in recent weeks in all winnable games. As Robbo said though we are yet a better team than what we were 6 weeks ago.

Go Hugo! It's a big rap for the young fella to come in and replace a half of experience and achievement in the game so early in his career. But its a nod to how hard he has worked and trained to get here. He will have a big cheer squad tonight. I hope Teddy backs off a little and lets the young halves play. He can be like a mother hen sitting on her eggs when he spots inexperience in our spine.

We have the best second rower in the comp when he's in the zone. I just feel Gus has been worrying about the younger less experienced guys around him and trying to direct them. He's had the experienced Luke Keary next to him when playing his best footy. Want to see him forget about his mates so much and trust them, and just focus on his own power game.

Great to see Vic back. I'm always much happier when he's in the team. Hope there's a late change, Mark for Dom.

It's a scary opposition with Haas up front, two clever battle hardened halves and the threat of Walsh out the back. Plus again we are outsized. Need to make our hits stick, respect possession and win the battle for territory. All the simple stuff to give ourselves the best chance.

Despite the challenge, looking forward to the game. Go Easts.

Broncos are rightfully short priced favourites and are expected by most to win easily, but I smell an upset. We are well overdue a win and if we can avoid going into self-destruct mode as we’ve been doing for the last three weeks, we have a decent chance. If we can be even with the Broncos for penalties, set restarts, dropped balls and forward passes over the 80 mins, we are in this up to our necks.
We need to be super aggressive in defence from start to finish and make them work hard for a win. Contain Haas and we’ll significantly blunt their go-forward. I’d love to see the concretor in for this game rather than Nat B, as we need to make their teeth rattle in every tackle (legally of course). We need an ambush, not a grind.
Kick to Walsh and bury him on every return; he’ll disappear after that.
We have a potent backline so let’s use it by getting some early ball out wide. Please, please, please Marky Mark in for Dom. Run their big boys around all game, tire them out to bring our more agile forwards into the game. Watson to tear them to shreds in the last 15 mins of each half, if he’s actually on the field.
The Broncos may not know what to expect from our new halves pairing (I’m not certain we do either), which could be a point of difference for us. Sandon is due a big game and let’s hope Hugo does his job well.
                  MOM Watson.

It's the size of the fight in the dog, not the size of the dog in the fight.

                    Go Chooks.

                      The Roosters have no excuses.

We have enough experience still: Teddy, Toops, Radley, Angus, Butcher, Spencer and Watson.

Run straight, tackle and hold on to the ball.

                      Rip in Roosters.

Our defense is a big worry. Teams like Brisbane will cut a weak defense to pieces. Young may score and let in tries so he should be dropped. Mark on the wing instead. And Butcher, you’ve got to be kidding. Any game is winnable if we keep the error and penalties low.

It’s going to be tough. We are the underdogs and no one gives us a chance. Hopefully we can cause an upset.

IMO we'll get 'em. Heading into the TAB to bet my mancave and limoncello / Valtellina wine collection on it.

If we lose, I'll do a 30km nudie run around Souffs' territory (fully waxed and bronzed beforehand). Actually... I might just do that anyway
