You know who needs world class players around them to make them look good?

Average players.

Unfortunately when you pay average players marquee money, you leave little in reserve to actually attract those world class players to your club.

Not necessarily, I agree without fittler we don't win 2002, but do you seriously believe that without mini, wing, morley, fitzy (who freddy gave credit himself to him saving our season) we would have got as far as we did?

With Freddy leading a team of lesser players we'd only have made the semis like we did every year since he joined us, even with a team of fair to midland duds for several of those years.

You need 3-4 world class players in your side, and can then surround them with average players and get results. Look at the storm's roster of rubbish outside of their top 6 or so players for a good example. Our problem is while Melbourne have tied up most of their cap with Cronk, Slater and Smith, we've been tying up large chunks of ours on the likes of Pearce, Anasta, Omeley, Myles and Mason for the past 5 years.
