Its ironic isn't it that more than likely we sign DCE yet we possibly could have a DCE in Hugo if he's allowed to make that position his own.

If the club are serious about the "we're playing the kids/trusting the academy" process then they won't be chasing DCE at all. We have Sam Walker as the long term halfback with Sandon Smith and Hugo Savala as first grade options right now plus Toby Rodwell in SG Ball who apparently has big wraps on him as a player for the future.

The media has linked us to DCE from the start but I am just not buying it, not only does it not fit with the development strategy but the players we have chased hard and eventually signed in the last year or two went under the radar until it was time to finalise (Robson, Fifita) but guys like Ben Hunt which dragged on appear to have no been serious about coming here and the club not serious about signing them. Brandon Smith might be the last time we chased someone that the media had wind of early and that's because he is a blabber mouth who details everything publicly.

With the funds available to us we could take DCE, Cobbo, a decent journeyman prop and keep the players we need I think.

I'm big on signing Cobbo as well although I think he's looking for 800-900k a season which is centre money and he'll get that from somewhere. That'd mean he'd need to take a spot from either Billy or Toia if we were to have him. If Billy remains injury free and Toia continues to develop then that'd be a tough call and I'd lean away from signing Cobbo unless he came to play wing.

A guy like DCE could very well fit into our developmental strategy because it is obviously greatly beneficial for young players to be around experienced players who have been doing it for a long time. Sam Walker gets infinitely more out of working with DCE every day at training and playing with him on game day then he does with Hugo, Sandon, Rodwell or anyone else we have available to play in the halves. In terms of games it takes a ton of pressure off Sam as well because he isn't expected to be THE guy, he can instead share that responsibility with someone equally as good.

The best teams are always a great mix of experience and youth.

If we’ve got a spare $900K to spend, let’s not spend it on a winger. How about we throw in a few hundred thousand more and make a play for Payne Haas instead? The Broncos are in a salary cap dilemma at the moment and he could be up for a switch.
