Thurston in explosive post-match tirade at Leniu at Suncorp Stadium

Johnathan Thurston former Cowboys legend turned Channel Nine commentator has launched a verbal tirade at Spencer Leniu in a fiery on-field incident at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Following the Roosters’ 26-16 win over the Broncos on Friday night, Thurston allegedly approached Leniu and voiced his disapproval of comments previously made by the former Queensland and Australian representative.

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity told the Herald that Leniu was stunned by Thurstons remarks.
It is believed Leniu’s Roosters teammate Siua Wong intervened. The incident is believed to have been captured by Nine cameras.

Channel Nine had advertised that Thurston would be conducting post-match interviews inside the Roosters sheds. However, he was later replaced by Cameron Smith.

It’s unclear what Thurston issue with Leniu’s was but Thurston was critical of the NRL’s punishment of Leniu last year after he was found guilty of calling Broncos Indigenous player Ezra Mam who's a druggo unlicensed driver who mame people and little children in car accidents a monkey and was banned for eight weeks.
“The NRL had a great opportunity to make a stand, not only for the game but for society as well, to protect other drivers on the road from being smashed into from drug drivers,” Thurston said on the Nine Network’s Today Show last year.
“I think the game has failed in this instance. I don’t think the nine weeks is sufficient for what Mam did and the mental scars that have been brought up with what our culture has endured since colonisation. It was a great opportunity to ban Mam as a blanket ban for all drug related offences if you are found guilty.”

Apparently Braith was on Cheese’s podcast and he confirmed that yes it was JT harassing Spencer for an interview which Spence continually declined. He also explained Spencer declined because he is really annoyed that JT never came out publicly to critique Mam’s pathetic 9 week suspension the way he continually criticised his 8 weeks as being too lenient. Braith also said it’s a nothing story and blown way out of proportion.
