  • This could potentially turn into a great halves pairing.

    6. Hugo Savala.

    Fantastic long kicking game.
    Big body. Great defensively.
Composed. Solid game management and decision making.

    7. Sammy Walker.

Best short kicking game in the comp.
    Heads up playmaker specialist.
    Incredible natural attacking instincts.
    Solid goalkicker.

Looks like they compliment each other nicely and tick all the boxes as a pairing. The back end of the season could be very exciting if we're thereabouts the top 8.

Need a larger sample size, I thought the same thing with sandon and the more I have seen the less I like what he brings for us. I was very impressed with Hugo’s debut and his kicking game was legit Cronk like at times.. if he can be consistent with his kicking then I 100% agree we could be onto something here.. but it’s a big if and I can’t say I’m confident.. been here many times before. But god do I hope he is legit.

I like Sandon quite a bit, and think when he cuts out the unforced errors (which will happen naturally with time), he'll be a very handy player.
With that said, on paper Walker and Savala likely make a better pairing in terms of what they offer. I think there's some overlap with Smith and Walker, but Savala and Walker seem to have very different skillsets, which is good.

Who knows what will end up happening, though? We've also got Jake Elliot and Toby Rodwell, so the end result could be anything.

I do hope that if Elliot and/or Rodwell are real guns, that the Roosters manage to keep them around and even play them out of position if needed. I feel like the Storm do this - if they see a really exceptional player in their system (a half or FB for instance) they'll transition them into an interchange hooker, centre, utility etc, in order to keep them at the club as long as they can.

I feel as though they did this with Cronk and Hynes, and are doing it with Faalogo, Pezet and Wishart now. Really gifted players, you need to just find room for as long as you can.

Yeah, Munster and Hughes were fullbacks and now top tier halves.

Rent, you've seen him play one game and now you want to use adjectives like 'great' and 'fantastic'.

Cool ya Jets (thanks Robbo). I echo Rooster08s thoughts that those lauding Hugo now will be quick to put the slipper in when things dont go his way.

I've fallen in love with Robbo again.

Savala did extremely well against one of the competition favourites and in front of their big loud home crowd. I'm not suggesting that he's a generational player however he has the right temperament and would pair up nicely with a creative half like Sammy.

That boot of his is also very sexy!

Yes I get all that. I hope to hell he turns into a long term Rooster. His field position kicks were interesting. With his big boot he could have got a bit more height at times, but a very minor critique.

The height thing isn't all that important.

Key elements are for the ball to stay in play and for the opposition to start their set as deep as possible. We smothered Walsh on his kick returns! You can see he was getting extremely frustrated.

Given his age I don't think he'll be with us long term. He's just turned 23, next year DCE is likely coming and will play 2 years with us, that means Hugo would need to wait until age 25 to even think about locking down the number 6 jersey.

Odds are we'll retain one of the teenagers who will be happy to wait until age 20-21 for a first grade spot.

I’ve seen enough of him to be confident we should lock him and Sammy down as the halves pairing for the future. His other first grade appearances have also been impressive. We should be thinking about developing this young team, not signing DCE for a couple of years. It would be awful to lose such a good player we have developed with so much potential, and a huge boot, in favour of an ageing half using us as his halfway house to retirement. I SAY FORGET ABOUT DCE!

It's what they offer collectively that counts and why they're referred to as a "halves pairing".

Hugo and Sammy's skill set compliment each other which makes for a good/great halves pairing.

James Maloney's composure and game management was key back in 2013 and he was our 6. Coopers Cronk's game management and composure was key 2018/19 and he was our 7. All that matters is that collectively all the key boxes are ticked.

ffs, come on everybody, let's cool it here.

it's one game, I wrapped his performance , but itsobe performance, teams will target him on the 5th moving forward.

I hope he still displays his, composure as he did Friday, but let's just get a sample size of 4 or 5 games.

But theyve never played a game together
Do you think we should give Hugo 1 million a season?
