Yep we seen him start and play well but that was in a tough arena and not against some bottom club.

So it was a hard game for him to come into. And yeah we got the next 2 weeks.

Who knows what the Riff will produce, and then the dogs who won't be easy but a good test for us.

We haven't had a long kicker for a while and his placement was very impressive. It looked like he was in slow motion he seemed to have that much time.

His defence was also very strong.

I'd just like to see more of his attacking skill. That was probably because of the game plan for his first game.

Look it was Hugo's first game as a starting half in the NRL and I think we can all agree he did a good job.

It's inevitable that he will come up with a shocker from time to time as he finds his feet in the toughest competition in the world.

In saying that I hope the coaching staff AND the fans can get behind the kid and give him the space to make mistakes.

Odds are we'll retain one of the teenagers who will be happy to wait until age 20-21 for a first grade spot.
We almost already lost him for this year, had agreed to a deal with the Titans and it fell through at the last min.
That to me shows the club didn't really rate him.

Must of had a blinder of a pre-season

Im optimistic about our ability to retain Hugo.

              He's local.

              He loves the joint.

Of course I could be completely wrong!

                And cheaper than DCE!

I may PM Sally and find out how much Savala is on.

Scots boy. Roosters are gods at that school. Taken over from Waverley.

Still waiting for a tough hombre from Cranbrook to represent our proud colours.

We should be thinking about developing this young team, not signing DCE for a couple of years. It would be awful to lose such a good player we have developed with so much potential, and a huge boot, in favour of an ageing half using us as his halfway house to retirement. I SAY FORGET ABOUT DCE!
Big risk to take a 5 game player with only one game of NRL in the halves over one of the best halfbacks of the past decade.

I think there's good potential in Hugo as he's got a long boot. However he's still very green and IMO (no hate for the guy), Chad may have just lost his confidence as he's too slow with his decision making. Warrior, Titans and Souffs games he didn't even have to be amazing... he just had to faaarkin kick the ball on the 3rd or 5th instead of stuffing around indecisively until the bread loaf was burned.

IMO it's one reason why Robbo's chosen to back our youth. Doesn't always work but guys like the great Slime Ankle, Reece Robinson, Napa, Jenko Mk 2...etc can come to us in a state where their development's not only capped out, it's starting to go backwards.

In Chad's case... he's our fittest player in yo-yo tests and watching his poddie, his attitude's all there. IDK what's missing but the fact a ~23 year old can outdo him in his first game of NRL (when at his best he's won a premiership), tells me something's amiss. No disrespect to Hugo (hell of a halves debut - all love and respect there!!!) but I reckon most of the POD he made involved not being outta sorts.

                            Sometimes a risk worth taking.
Signing someone towards the end of their career and risk losing a home grown who gave the impression he wasn't intimidated in Brisbane against a side that recently thrashed us, would be to me, rather bewildering.

100%. We nearly lost him to the Titans last year. If we held him back further you wouldn't blame him for moving on.

Happy to stand corrected but I believe Connor Watson was the King of the Yo-Yo test.
