Gerard Sutton penalised Losalu for "drifting back from marker". What does that even mean?

He's clearly at marker when Cleary is playing the ball so why does it matter if he's drifting back? Is this a new rule?

Literally always see new rules/interpretations against us. It’s like they trial stuff… except it never gets penalised ever again.

The no penalty on Tedesco is almost corrupt. Edward’s doesn’t “brace”, he continues running multiple metres and then drops his shoulder into Teddy. Unbelievable.

If Losalu was "way too far back from marker" we'll see another 30 penalties in this second half.

Happens every week. Sutton is a dirty cheat.

So according to the bunker that was “incidental contact” by Edwards on Teddy (without the ball)…if it was reversed Teddy would have gone to the bin in a flash…these pricks wouldn’t have even looked at it twice .

Never seen them use that line of reasoning. If anything, they tend to be overly harsh when some poor bugger actually does make accidental contact in back-play somewhere.

IMO this was a pretty darn obvious example!!! Coulda challenged it if the ref hadn't already talked to the bunker while cooking it up.

Ill answer your question- the marker has to be within 5 metres of the play the ball. Obviously Losalu was within 5 metres-what was more obvious is Sutton wouldnt have awarded the penalty if Yeo didnt drop the ball.

IMO if you can't get simple stuff like that right, you shouldn't be getting called up as an NRL ref. I heard there's a vacant role as a concrete pourer if this d*mbfark 'ref' needs a tip. However I wouldn't trust him to pour my driveway as he'd sit there telling me it's flat when there's a 45' slope.
