Dom isn't the most graceful winger, and he has had his problems in defense, but he is a try scorer. Dom has scored 50 tries in 51 games since the start of the the 2023 season. His defensive reads can be pretty ordinary at times, but it doesn't help that our right side has changed completely this season. Tupou is such a consistent player and does the grunt work like no other, but he has never had a great strike rate in try scoring like Dom.

I’ve made my thoughts about Dom pretty clear, and haven’t really changed it. It’s not like he’s the worst player in the comp, but we can’t pay him the amount he’s on to not play first grade.

Long term, I don’t see who he replaces? He won’t get a spot over Toops this year or next. I highly doubt he’d make it as centre, and even if he does you surely wouldn’t dump prospects like Smith or Toia. That only leaves Marky Mark, who has shown excellent dynamism and rapid improvement since debuting.

He’s certainly a handy backup, but you can’t pay $600,000 for someone in reserves. We also can’t hold him there until Toops retires.

I don’t really see many options aside from an early exit, and I feel like that may be best for both parties.

I would happily trade Young tomorrow for the other English bloke at the Knights, Kai Pearce Paul - he has such a good offload that in a decent team would be lethal
In saying that Wong has really stepped up his game the past few weeks and right now deserves that #12

It's interesting that his Wikipedia profile for 2025 states that he was dropped - "due to poor form, particularly in defensive decisions leading to the Sydney Roosters conceding a number of tries in the beginning of the season"......... lol

Mark M should be a better option than Dom and will only improve as the season goes on. I can't see Dom improving his defense enough to be worth what we pay him but we cant get rid of him at the moment. There is no one to take his place. Paunga is out indefinitely with a bad back, Tyreece Tait is not ready for NRL That only leaves Tom Rodwell and Ethan King maybe. I doubt anyone would match his money for the last 2 years of his contract. We need another good backup winger.

I have no doubt that we need dom for the rest of the season to cover injuries etc.
Teddy and Toups are safe, Billy has really made left centre his own, Toia has done absolutely nothing wrong and is soaking up valuable game time.
But, I like most Roosters fans should be really excited with what’s ahead for Mark. He has played 7 games of league and has been really really good. Strong in both attack and defence and looks really eager to learn and so humble. A super exciting prespect for us as fans.
Dom Young is just the unlucky one.
