Toops is retiring end of 2026?
I'd keep Dom. He can play wing and centre, 2nd row at a pinch.
Good to have a player like him in the squad. He's improving all the time.
Trouble is, the team rarely passes him the ball on the end of a slick passing backline move where he has space to score tries, like he did last season.
Surely with all Easts contacts we could get him a lucrative 3rd party deal.
If he wants to stay, keep him,... if he wants to go, let him go.
You’re the best BB. Doesn’t look like any bites though.
I'm with Salvo on this one.
Dom is an extraordinary athlete- big, strong, and fast.
Physical attributes that are only given to the gifted few.
If he sorts out his positional defensive issues, I think he will become one of the the best wingers in the game.
Remember, he is still learning the game - he is in his early 20's.
Also one hell of a backup player for our current three quarter line.
Over the next 12 months I think he will re-establish himself in first grade- the Roosters would be mad to let him go.
Young isn't in a form slump. Major parts of his game aren't up to NRL standard!
He's a defensive liability and he doesn't like heavy contact so there's no yardage aspect to his game. Robbo Imo has finally realised that he's a cat and that's why he was dropped.
As a project and potentially a depth signing he'd be worth no more than $200k. Personally I'd be more than happy if we granted him a release asap.

What a load of crap he can play centre. Absolute bullshit. You have never seen him play centre. If he’s confused defending at wing then he will never master defence at centre. Take your goggles off you old fool.

Dom will be back - 80 NRL Games and 68 tries - Only started playing when 16
Toops isn't the greatest at defence either to be honest - Both are tall players - Toops 1.96 metres and Dom 2.0 metres.
All know that teams favour the left side in attack and no doubt they will target the Roosters right side defence with 2 newbies in Mark Nawaqanitawase and Robert Tioa still learning the NRL game so when tries are scored down that side because of bad reads and or positioning for an example what will the posts be like about that.

Did you really say 2nd row. The guy that runs sideways.
Pretty disappointing if it’s him agitating for a release after being dropped for 1 week. He needs to work on his defence, end of. He can keep being a highlight reel player at a bottom 8 club or he can aim up and improve his game and become one of the games elite.
That being said, if he can’t get in our side and he’s on 600 odd a year doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to keep him, even though Toops has only got a year left.
They certainly can - Dom's tries in 2024 - Of course folk like Gus Gould and Andrew Johns rate Dom - but what do they know compared to the views of arm chair critics that never laced a boot on in anger
I'm in two spaces about it, from one perspective 600k a year is a lot of money for a player who is going to be used as depth and depth only, there are also a lot of backs who have had relatively successful first grade careers that could be picked up this year and be cheaper depth for us.
On the other side, as others have said with training and further development Dom Young could be the best winger in the comp, great size, great speed, already has great attacking ability, his kick defusing has improved, surely it couldn't be that hard for a fully professional coaching staff to get him better in defence and on kick returns. If they can do that then we have a star on our hands.
For me personally I'd see how our backline goes this year and how Billy Smith goes injury wise before making any rash decisions. If Dom gets minimal time this year then maybe best to move him on and sign a good depth back but I certainly wouldn't be moving him on this season.
We have our best 1 to 5 now.
If one drops out then Dom is our next best.
Pauga has more defensive and aerial deficiencies than Dom and can't match his attack and Tait is nowhere near ready. If our next in line for a long term injury is Pauga then we are in deep shit.
And I doubt this story is coming from anyone but some idiot who thinks they could make a story a few days after Dom being dropped.
We need him this year for strong depth in the backline.
And like Newcastle are going to have $600K to pay for him next year.
