This nrl goes from one dumb rule change to another.
But this current crackdown is as stupid as those giant heads people insist on waving in the stands.

I hear these clueless coaches lamenting the current situation, but saying they have no solutions.
Well I've got one.
It's quite simple.
Tell the game managers to stop sending players off for nothing.
If the nrl wants to be so precious about player safety, make accidents penalty sufficient and leave the punishment up to match review.
How are players supposed to disappear when attackers are falling into them?

Leaving teams with 12 or 11 players can be crippling in the context of the game, especially with the stupid 6 again rule.

There’s a simple solution.
Send players off (or to the bin) when there is forceful or malicious contact, or when it is clear that someone attacks the head (stiff arm or shoulder)
Accidental contact , or the moderate force contact , especially when attacking players are falling, should be dealt with a penalty, and let the MRC deal with it later.
That would avoid players being binned for face slaps.
You have to give something back to the defending team - it’s a tough game , and you want it to remain that way.

It concerns me that Graham Annesley stopped doing his press conferences this year, coaches & clubs were told not to talk about the referees and supposedly broadcasters also asked to refrain from being too critical as well.

Makes me think the NRL already predicted what was to come and this isn't just an over-correction that's going to be fixed any time soon.

The game is so stop start, there's no continuity to the play and it's impacting the results.

It would seem that the entire farce that surrounds sin bins, is part of the V’landys master plan to game manage results through the whistleblowers.
Sin bins, 6 agains , and penalties.
Especially useful when the results of probably 60 - 70 percent of games are decided on momentum shifts.

Do you think that the AFL, Australian Rugby or Soccer Australia are paying him to ruin the game so they dont have to compete with Rugby League?

When it’s obviously an accident because a play falls or similar extenuating circumstance it should be a penalty only and the offending player looked at by the match review panel. Unless there’s a concussion, then maybe a sin bin then. Look the whole thing's a mess but it’s a contact sport and I have no idea how they’re going to fix it.

Tigers up by 6 with 15mins to go, Sharks make an error and now we're going back 4 tackles for a head high shot that the offensive player doesn't even flinch for.

Sharks score in the ensuing set now it's 18-18 with 14 to go. Tigers will be down a player for the next 9minutes. Could well be game defining because the bunker is jumping at shadows.

Geez thank God the Tiges won. That was an incredible game marred by controversial bunker calls for sinbins again. Joey Johns threw the mike away during commentary in disgust at the sinbin against the Tigers. What a game and gutsy performance. Although Terrell doesn't exactly intimidate, his motor is off the charts for a big man, unmatched at this level.

seems Andrew Johns missed the memo, he went to town about it on the Sunday footy show, called out everyone, and even suggested that lawyers may be behind the whole matter.

Nowadays, MR doesn't matter about first contact, it's where the defender's arm or shoulders end up - hitting an attacking player/ball carrier in the head it will be a penalty, on report and or report and sin bin. Can players not go through with such tackles if a player slips is also the question or can they pull out of such a tackle.

Of course, the league will crack down on this for legal reasons - they wouldn't want a raft of legal cases against the league as they had in the NFL.

Okay for folk on here to say why, but would they like to be hit in the head multiple times a game-accidental or not?

No player signs a waiver for any potential injury they may suffer when playing a contact sport and no player would for those that think players should know the danger and suck it up and, as such, should never take legal action against the league or their club.

Unfortunately if the game's future is eventually threatened by an onslaught of litigation, a sin bin crack down will have no bearing on the outcome.

If it helps parents to feel better about allowing their kids to play junior footy then I'm all for it.

what has the NFL done to protect itself from further lawsuits? I don’t remember how many players sued, and what the outcome was.

If player welfare was really front of mind for the NRL, then defenders who accidentally clash heads or elbow their team mates in the temple, cheekbone or jaw, should be similarly fined and suspended by the MRC. I won't say too much more because I fear the shiny arses at league headquarters might see it as an opportunity to raise more cash.

I understand all that Salvo. But I would suggest there are many times when an attacking player slips and the defender has no time to adjust or pull out of it. If this is the way the game is headed and the defender will be punished no matter the circumstances, or in other words there are no extenuating circumstances, then we should revert to touch or players only being allowed to tackle around the waste or below.
