  • Coach or Lack of senior players?

Lots of people on here calling for Smithy's head.

Do you guys think that even if we did have a "better" coach that we even have the appropriate senior players in our current squad to implement his game-plan? I think we went a little overboard with our so called "youth policy" especially in our forward pack.

Myles and Ryles are sorely missed despite the silly penalties they gave away. We are still giving those penalties away in their absence.

...you make a good point, but the irony is it's our most senior players who for most of the year have been copping most of the criticism !

I'm sure a better coach could instil in them better structure, better discipline, better defence and better set moves. All things we lack and all very coachable things no matter the squad.

I'm just worried that we end up with another coach who asks for another 2 years of "rebuilding"

Fark i hate the 'rebuilding excuse', enough is enough! Yes we have some quality youngsters coming through, but get the cheque book out and sign some established players to help.get results fast and be a positive influence on the young guys!! I honestly dont think we are underachieving this year, on paper with the squad we have, anything but the spoon is a good result!!

No player as an individual seems to ever improve under the guidance of Smith.

Where are these 'established players' to buy? [who are any better than the ones we have already]

We certainly miss senior players in our team. Our 'Senior' players at the moment are Anasta, Mini, FPN and Perret. Anasta and Mini aren't cutting it in this regard. Perret is leaving (and is a winger anyway). The pack is certainly a much better unit when FPN is firing - which only highlights the fact that the boys can fire when given good leadership.

Geez we could've done with Rylesy this year, our young blokes are really missing his experience, unfortunately he has just signed on for another year with the Storm.

I agree on the youth/experience balance - if you look at the other "youth" team which is Brisbane, they have 6 very experienced internationals spread throughout the team to keep the young blokes on the level on the field.

Obviously losing Carney and Myles was not planned and Conn with a career ending injury, but then letting Ryles and Graham go was a strange decision. I honestly believe that if Graham and Ryles were still there and we replaced Conn and Myles with experienced journeyman forwards we may be in a more solid position while these young guys get experience.

This has been the failure of the recruitment policy in my opinion.

Of course we need some older experienced players. Our old mate Chris Anderson said on ABC radio yesterday that it is obvious the Roosters play with no structure.

That would be because Brian Smith doesn't coach structures, he believes in a different game plan for every week which is never going to work with a young squad whom really just need to be told their job at the start of the season and how to best fulfil that job.

It's on the coach, for me we are the second poorest prepared team just in front of Canberra. Parra and Penrith have very poor squads but I can see what both of those teams are trying to achieve when they take the field, Canberra and us on the other hand have good squads that play nowhere near potential most weeks.
