  • Already Paying For SBW

    Been told:

Our salary cap is very tight always for both the current year & year in advance so how exactly do we accomodate SBW, who will become the highest paid player in the NRL?

The moves were made a year ago. Myles, Carney, Ryles let go early & not replaced. Bought a few fringe players for this year, and brought forward payments to 2012 for current players to clear space for 2013.

SBW signing has been a longtime in the making, and the current lack of depth/lack of signings in our current roster is part of the effect of having to clearup somewhere around 1 million in the cap for 2013.

The club knew SBW was coming in 2013 before a ball was kicked in 2012.

The majority of freeing up space was done a year ago & bringing contract payments forward.

So he better be worth it. Most of us felt our roster was weakened in 2012, we are seeing the results of it.

Im not defending the coaching staff, but pretty much who is hired & fired and recruitmment decisions are out of their hands.

Lack of depth in the forward pack? Don't think so, club always had replacements in our young players, with JWH, Tasi , Kennedy.

Miller made the decision to leave cause he didn't think there was an opportunity in the halves, therefore left, murray also signed with the Eels, Manly offered Foran a contract, Carney farked up (again) and left us with little choice but to sack him, that left us with only anasta. Which by the way we have signed Maloney!

You're reading too much into it.

If we win the comp next year with SBW and our sponsorship, membership and gatetakings go up by at least 50% then he is worth it.
If not, it was a massive risk for nothing.

BTW - how will his contract be registered when his manager has no accreditation?

Myles and Ryles being let go had nothing to do with $BW, both were allowed to leave the club if they found better deals elsewhere, both did. We offered Ryles a contract, Melbourne added $50,000 and we refused to match it. Myles received a big money lengthy contract from the Titans and was already on the nose at the club, no brainer to let him go early.

I do however believe Politis paid $BW anywhere up to $50,000 this season just to speak to him and Nasser and get him to sign a contract of intent to sign with Easts, I don't think this would have taken up cap space though. When Politis pulls stunts like this be very very concerned, they usually end in tears and spoons.

He'll negotiate on his own. ( Well, that will be the official story)

I'm pretty sure Isaac Luke went into bat for himself and maybe Luke Priddis before he retired IIRC.

            Well that'd explain some things.

Like the massive hole in our cap this season.

Dude better not cop an injury.

              redrooster knows his shit.

I would not be dismissing anything he says.

When the Roosters, I mean Politis, goes for a quick fix, it ALWAYS ends in tears. If it happens, signing SBW for one year only is absolute stupidity.

SBW alone will not win the Roosters a premiership though. We'll get to this same point next year, struggling to make the eight and all threads and posts will be similar or related to:

"We're planning for 2014 without SBW, we're a young team."

Been running this place for 5 years and with the exclusion of having T.Carney here for a year, people have discussed the same things and convince themselves that the team will come good, and when they don't, they manage to convince themselves that we're building for the next year which evidently isn't the case either.

As for Smith's recent 'Happy with elements of loss & almost being able to compete with the top teams". That did me. Game over.

It's a vicious circle. As I said in another thread, I've defended the club, Anasta, Smith (etc etc) for years, but even I have had enough. Letting Carney go pretty much tipped me over and now I'm done until they start playing consistently. Forget SBW, throw the book at Bellamy. It's unlikely he'll come, but I'd like them to atleast waste their time chasing someone who will make the team competitive every single week.

                    I agree 100% with you.

I've had enough and wont be going next year unless there is a top coach appointed like bellamy.

I am a big sbw fan, but like I said somewhere else, we can have 3 sbw in our team but unless the coaching set up is fixed up in a hurry, it will be a massive waste of time once again.

We would be better off spending millions on a top coach and less on players rather than spend millions on players and keep having a dud coach.

                    I've had it.

Politis will keep making the wrong decisions unfortunately.

You'll be sorely missed Fred, I'll let the club know of this disturbing development.

This is what I fear will happen because Roosters management appear to be putting a large number of eggs into one unreliable basket. I'm not convinced that SBW will make much difference if the rest of the players don't play to a higher level than they are currently and to a level which smith seems incapable of achieving. SBW is only part of the answer. The other prima donnas in this Roosters team need to get on with the job of playing to their poooootential under WHICHEVER coach management sees fit to bless them with in 2013.

Fred & Chris I guarantee that if SBW is here next year and the Chooks are flying along at the top because he and Maloney are not only destroying the opposition, but also making the rest of our team feel 10 foot tall, Lady Gaga could be the coach and you would be at the games cheering along with the rest of us!

                              Who? :S

I'm sure SBW is fitter than most players and should have little trouble adapting.
