Like the massive hole in our cap this season.

Dude better not cop an injury.
considering we're the youngest side in the competition, i do wonder how much under the salary cap we are

Youg doesn't necessarily mean cheap nowdays - especially when those players have been playing NRL for a few years like some of ours have. Remember some of our younguns debuted at 18 odd so by the time they're 21-22 they've got a few years experience which jacks up their contract price.

"We're planning for 2014 without SBW, we're a young team."

Been running this place for 5 years and with the exclusion of having T.Carney here for a year, people have discussed the same things and convince themselves that the team will come good, and when they don't, they manage to convince themselves that we're building for the next year which evidently isn't the case either.

As for Smith's recent 'Happy with elements of loss & almost being able to compete with the top teams". That did me. Game over.

It's a vicious circle. As I said in another thread, I've defended the club, Anasta, Smith (etc etc) for years, but even I have had enough. Letting Carney go pretty much tipped me over and now I'm done until they start playing consistently. Forget SBW, throw the book at Bellamy. It's unlikely he'll come, but I'd like them to atleast waste their time chasing someone who will make the team competitive every single week.
Great post!! Agree with all except the bit about forget SBW. With a new coach SBW can do great things for us. Imo he will be with us for at least 2 years, and who knows, if he ends up really enjoying his time with us (with a new coach there is a big chance of that), along with a bigger salary cap and if he sees the carrot there of being close to a premiership (or possibly even defending the title) it can entice him to stay even longer.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

        Here's looking at you, kid.

It's a frightening prospect, but I guess we will all mourn in our own private ways.

You're right. But at the same time i'm willing to bet the average salary here wouldn't be the same as the average salary in, say, an older club like the Titans. Consider the amount of marquee players we have as well. Not many at all. SKD, Pearce, Mini? don't think they are all commanding that much

Fred may be repetitive but he is far from wrong.

Younger players can be more expensive than older players as you aren't just paying them for now but what they might become in the future. That is not the case for older players. The guys around 30 years of age can actually be a bit cheaper.

Times like these I wish salaries were published. I can't fathom how we are close to the cap.

Our salary cap is very tight always for both the current year & year in advance so how exactly do we accomodate SBW, who will become the highest paid player in the NRL?

The moves were made a year ago. Myles, Carney, Ryles let go early & not replaced. Bought a few fringe players for this year, and brought forward payments to 2012 for current players to clear space for 2013.

SBW signing has been a longtime in the making, and the current lack of depth/lack of signings in our current roster is part of the effect of having to clearup somewhere around 1 million in the cap for 2013.

The club knew SBW was coming in 2013 before a ball was kicked in 2012.

The majority of freeing up space was done a year ago & bringing contract payments forward.

So he better be worth it. Most of us felt our roster was weakened in 2012, we are seeing the results of it.

Im not defending the coaching staff, but pretty much who is hired & fired and recruitmment decisions are out of their hands.
No offence towards u mate but that reads like BS to me! It astounds me how many ppl know so about the intimate buisness details of the club. Rumours fly and ppl take it as gospel ppl cant seem to separate fact from fiction!!

I did have a close working relationship with the marketing manager the development officer and the media manager at Easts a number of yrs ago and even they were suprised when some of the factual news that did come out. Most of the conversations we had were speculative and opinion on their part based on fragments of information they had and yet ppl on here are posting that they have been told by Easts that SBW is on 850k and know it to be fact .... farking laughable shyte that ppl post and claim to be fact.

Bingo. Same shit excuses are wearing thin like my underwear and stink just as bad. Other clubs develop young players and guess what, they smash week in week out. I also agree with Chris that SBW will not win us a premiership. Ive said it for a while now. One player never has and never will in a team sport of 17 players.

He may not have won it on his own, but they sure wouldnt have won without him.

All teams need a standout only the broncos winning this yr would make it a genuine team effort cos i do no see a standout player for them, griffin is very underrated.
