  • In sunday Tele SBW deal with the Roosters

Will happen and he will come to us in Jan 13 for 1 year at this stage. Also on same page article about smith's future and uncle Nick says that he will see his last year out. Hope not.

Shagger, who will be first grade coach in 2013 - JT or Trent Robinson?

We can only pray. Either of those options would be streets ahead of what Smith offers as head coach. I'm happy to see him stay at the club in some capacity though as he has put u in the right direction imo, just lacks the ability to instruct a modern-day footy side and seems to lack any creativity in his coaching.

@MrScottMcKenzie: The SBW press conference in Hamilton tomorrow also includes Ian Foster, Dave Rennie and Wayne Smith.

I agree with this. Personally I think Smith should stay at the club as a coaching director. I think he has made a lot of changes that have laid strong foundations at the Roosters, however his personal relationship with the players appears strained (according to people in the know), and his tactics/plan/strategies as a coach appear sadly outdated as is evident by the teams performance.

Keeping him in a coaching director role will assist in taking the heat off a young coach like Taylor or Robinson, and also provide support for the coach when it comes to dealing with Nick Politis. It also ensures continuity of existing strategies for further improvements at the club.

Wayne Smith is one of the Chiefs coaches, weird $BW is fronting a press conference at Chiefs HQ with 2 Chiefs coaches and the All Blacks assistant coach to announce he's going to Japan. This may suggest in 2014 he'll be returning to NZRU as rumoured.

I can accept that the Roosters may sign SBW on a 1 year arrangement so that both parties have the option to extend if the arrangement is successful, though it would be my preference to sign him for at least 2 years or not at all. However if the Roosters sign SBW for 1 year KNOWING that it will be for only 1 year, they absolutely have rocks in their head.

My understanding....press release tomorrow to announce he is off to Japan......he won't be confirming the Roosters deal until January.....and the NZRU will welcome him back with open arms for 2014?
