Keeping him in a coaching director role will assist in taking the heat off a young coach like Taylor or Robinson, and also provide support for the coach when it comes to dealing with Nick Politis. It also ensures continuity of existing strategies for further improvements at the club.
I'd be perfectly okay with that

However if the Roosters sign SBW for 1 year KNOWING that it will be for only 1 year, they absolutely have rocks in their head.
The Herald this morning had us paying him $500 for next year but Japanese Rugby paying him $1m (plus additional money for boxing).

I think the Benji thing a couple of years ago confirmed that the NRL won't let you play union if you are contracted to league.

Putting two and two together, it occurred to me that we might have him on single year deals so that he can play giggle ball in Japan in the off season and then re-sign with us in January 2014 etc.

      Just a thought.

another knee jerk reaction by its management dressing room jock - 1 year deal big deal! $bw likely to be injured early on in the season (he will also be targeted by nrl mugs) , history shows most big signings by the roosters that that either get they injured early or not perform.
prefer a character type like a bunny reilly, fitzy, ricketson any day.more longevity.where is the longevity in a 1 year deal.

The sound of success will shut everyone up. He is a professional athlete and has shown in the last few years he is determined to succeed. Even if its only for one year, it will boost everyone on the team and hopefully have a legacy for the years after. I personally think that he is returning to league to play a game which he prefers and may even stay longer. We'll see.
            SBW, come on Down!!!

lol... he left a fine legacy at the Dogs didnt he. He is coming for money only. He has proved that in the past and is proving it now with all his demands and clauses allowing him to basically do what he wants while his future team mates slug it out busting their guts for their club. The only thing this guy is loyal to is $$$. Dont be fooled. If he comes, it will only be to rape us finacially and at the expense of other opportunities that we will miss and have already lost. I believe it will be more destabilising to the team than boosting. If certain playing conditions are allowed for one player... surely it must be the same for the rest. I hazard a guess that it wont.

              Thats just my thoughts however.

Mate I know you ain't a fan of $BW but I'd have thought he could make more $$$ playing Yawnion than League???

I see more of him wanting to play League again is a personal challenge thing than just $$$ driven. He comes across as being big on testing himself and I believe if this was for pure $$$ he wouldn't need to play League again, he's proven he's one of the better players in the game.

I'd be guessing, and hoping, he wants to prove to himself and everyone else who watch both codes that he still has the juice. And IF he does that can only be good for the club from what I see.

Just my opinion of course. This may be all futile, although everyone's convinced he's coming, bigger backflips have occurred.

                The FlogPen .

                You know it makes sense.

On a year to year basis, I am not quite sure he will make as much as money. Not with NZ rugby anyway. As for big backflips, he is responsible for the biggest backflip ever in league. Dirty dirty act and should have been banned from league for life. In saying that, if he gets here and does well, I will be more than happy to eat the pie but I have never doubted his talents (which does remain to be proven in a game that has changed so much since he gave it the finger) , just his past issues which I for one, struggle to accept.

And please tell me which player TODAY, will not leave a club for more money? Sure there are some like Mini, perhaps JT, maybe Lyons but I would guess that 60 to 70% of todays players would easily leave a club, or a sport for more money. Let's not be in a fantasy about player loyalty crap. They are all (most) out there to make a buck. Like you and me. I's say that the experience we'll get from that year will only make our club stronger. I know that you find it hard to understand but SBW ****ed up at that age and like STSAE said, he wants to make a mends for what he did otherwise he'd stay in rugby with bigger bucks. At the end of the day, we have nothing to lose considering the year were having. That is my thoughts!

If he comes for 1 year and he brings success, then great, but what happens in 2014 ?

He is a good athlete, has had success etc. Thats to be applauded, what he did at the dogs is to be booed.

I'm not a huge fan of the company he keeps and dont what that lot associated with the club I have supported for many. many years. That said, if he comes, then he is one player in the club I support. I have over the years supported this club through a lot of signings I didnt respect.

Well after not having success for 11 years(2013), I'd take that year and hope for the best the next. One step at a time. The other option is to still leave in hope with the 'rebuilding phase' and be 3rd from the bottom.

The NRL has lost the plot what if we end up verging the Bullwogs in an important game like the preliminary or semi final. what if it's the grand final we'd be robbed. I would be gutted if we make the grand final and get flogged like Storm in 08 just because our key player was ruled out. Well done NRL they let him box, play in Japan but won't let him play games vs The Dogs

true! What kinda of deal would that be? It only happens in soccer that if a player is on loan to another club, that loaned player can't play against the club that owns the contract BUT this isn't soccer and I'm sure that even SBW manager wouldn't be that idiotic to ask for such a lame deal. All crazy chinese whispers.
