There is no way they can afford him, no f*cking way.
They have just signed Perrett and Inu, and next year will have Morris, Barba, Tolman, Ennis, Kasiano, Pritchard, T.Williams, Graham, J.Reynolds, none of whom would be cheap. They are also expected to announce that Halatau has re-signed and have Hodkinson in reserve grade who wouldn't be cheap either. Add to that Corey Payne is a City representative..
No f*cking way.

This has led to the farcical situation we have where bulldogs (and souffs) players receiving massive top-ups from ANZ Stadium (and god knows how many others - Todd Greenback is their chief accountant) who, although it is obviously in their financial interest to have winning teams playing at their stadium to boost gate takings, are not considered a "club sponsor". Club sponsors, such as the companies whose logo appear on the players' jerseys, are limited to 300K in total for all players in the club. Big help that is.
In case anyone is naive or a bit slow, I'll explain how it works. A player worth 600K or more a year is approached. "Would you like to play for us? We can only pay you 50K per year. But you will, after you sign, receive a phone call from Mr X, who loves our club. Believe me, the brown paper bag you will receive from his organization will more than compensate for your crappy official salary".
So yes, I am afraid, they very much can afford Lewis, and half a dozen more internationals as well.
Somewhere along the line our club has not caught onto this rort. And we are languishing at the bottom of the table with no internationals or rep players on our squad (please don't tell me Pearce is a rep player).
And we could very likely have a GF this year fought out by the 2 biggest CAUGHT salary cap cheats in the game's history - bulldogs and Storm. Remember 2002 bulldogs? Well they won against us in 2004 with basically the same team, just different accountants.

Fletch, I dont think we will be chasing Lewis at this stage of his career, he has been good for Penrith, a wholehearted player, but he is getting on in footy terms, and his best years are behind him now, plus we have plenty of second rowers coming thru.
I am with you about Aubusson , his form this year has been terrible, not sure what has gone wrong with him, he is unfortunate that he is abit small to be a dominant forward, and not fast enough to be a dominant back, but when in form he used to get the job done, but sadly, that form is in the distant past.
Cheers.........Burnt Rooster

I very rarely agree with anything Phil Rothfield writes.
I agree with the bit down the bottom.

RULES FOR SOME
There is enough internal drama at the Roosters without them signing Sonny Bill Williams, who has permission to play rugby union and fight to supplement his NRL income. Will the same latitude be offered to other players, or will they be running up sand hills over summer while Sonny Bill is bashing up stiffs and picking up $80,000 a game in Japan?

Maybe he just wants SBW as a mate for Toddy?

I'm sure that Lebron james and alike has more latitude than he's other colleagues and they all accept that.

Without doubt you want both!!
I like fletch's idea of a trade to get Lewis. I would be looking at trading any 2 or even all 3 of Symonds, Arona and Carney. The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
Here's looking at you, kid.

A mate works in conditioning at the swans. He says the older more established players have massively reduced training regimen. No different in my view to giving sbw some leeway.
After the try Sonny William Williams butchered on Friday night to cost the chiefs a draw what sane person would be signing him
