  • Players you admire from the last 5 years

Now I know a lot of people we have varied opinion on this but think ts worth a mention.

    Top of my list,

    Matt Orford
Slandered and almost shipped off 3 years ago, this guy has really stepped up as a leader and competitor. The change in the ruck rules havent affected his style of play(which is why Kimmorley wont be on my list) and has been great consistently for 3 years.

    Dallas Johnson
The unsung heroes of any team are the tireless backrowers. To me the resilience of the backrow goes a long way to winning games and this guy is a hero in my books. No man of the matches, no fuss, gets the job done week after week. I wish the roosters had him and its why Brian Smith is bringing Matt Hilder.

    Chris Heighington
Man this guy can play. It was no surpirse that when he went out injured they started to fold. A real talent. Runs and hits like every game is his last. Would offer big dollars to come to Bondi.
    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

    Nathan Hindmarsh -

Absolute physical freak and the perfect mould of a Rugby League forward.

He is bringing Matt Hilder? That is news to me, I was sure he just re-signed with Knights.

      Players I really rate:

      Luke Douglas
Although he is young, he plays like a veteran, and is yet to miss a first grade game. To highlight his consistency, in 2006 at the age of 20 he averaged 12 runs for 101 metres and 26 tackles per game, in 2007 he averaged 13 runs for 104 metres and 33 tackles per game, in 2008 he averaged 12 runs for 92 metres and 32 tackles per game, and currently this season he is averaging 14 runs for 117 metres, and 36 tackles per game. That is an outstanding workrate, and he doesn't really receive the accolades he deserves in my opinion.

      Glenn Stewart
Another high workrate player. He took his opportunities in first grade with both hands, and developed into a player that always offers around a dozen runs every game, a good 30-35 tackles including tightening up the ruck defense, and he uses his mobility to his advantage in attack that gives him the ability to break the line or put others into holes. I think he has not had the best season this year, but is still a top quality player.

Andrew Ryan is one player that I've had lots of respect for as a player on and off the field. Always plays well without any niggle or any other crap.

Pietero Civoneciva - this bloke takes the ups and downs that footy brings and just rolls with the punches. You get 100% effort every game, whichever team he's playing for and he's the main reason behind Penrith's improvement since he's been there.

David Stagg - no nonsence, no frills footballer who never puts in a bad performance and does a lot of the hard, dirty work Wish he was at the Chooks. The Dogs hit the jackpot when they snapped him up.

Preston Campbell - I love watching this little bloke play. He gets bumped and bashed around and just gets right up and goes running straight at the opposition again. No fear, plenty of guts and determination.

Stagg is a good one. He was used terribly at Broncos, as a stopgap bench utility, but given the role of an 80 minute lock at Bulldogs, he is averaging 45+ tackles, as well as making plenty of offloads and tackle breaks when running the ball.

I guess the best way for us to add starch to our pack for next year, would be to shift Myles into the second row with Mason, and then to bring in an experienced prop to partner Paea. I would like to see us make an offer to a strong, experienced front rower who has a notably good workrate in attack and defence, as the grit to contrast Paea's explosiveness.

Hannant is ideal, but without him, maybe we should have a play at Shane Tronc. He isn't an impact man, but he gets through lots of work in both attack and defense, and would be the cornerstone of the pack.

Back on topic, another very underrated player is Michael Gordon. Slick finisher, great goalkicker, and very consistent.

Fitzy- When he's gone is when we will appreciate how good he is..

Matt Geyer - Not the most talented, but he played just about every position for the Storm,& gave his all every week..

Brett Hodgson - I still can't believe Wests brushed him...Never seemed to have a bad game..(except that Origin when he threw the pass to Lockyer)..

we offered him a packet around 2004 but he decided to stay with the tigers. that's what the godfather told me anyway.

Danny Buderus, for me was the greatest hooker to ever put on the jumper.

A real leader who lead with actions, not words. Fantastic running game, A+ passing game, solid kicking game and one of the best defenders going around.

I like blokes that perform in the big games and usually deliver like Buderus, lockyer,Ingliss.
Fan of Dallas Johnson as well.

From the Roosters - Morley, Mini and Fitzy.

Outside of the Roosters - Very few but El-Masri and Stacey Jones, two of Rugby Leagues good guys, come to mind. And Inglis; he is definitely the best player in the league at the moment.

As soon as I saw the thread title, one name, and one name only, immediately popped into my head - Nathan Hindmarsh.
Not only one of the greatest players ever but from all reports a decent human being.

Given further thought I will also nominate Preston Campbell for sheer guts and unquestionable talent. For a man of his size to be playing this game at the consistently high level he has played for so long and for the fact that he doesn't hide in defence like the biting milkman, Preston gets my vote and respect.
