The difference between Tamou and Tolman is that Tamou breaks the advantage line almost every hit up which allows the team to gain attacking momentum, Tolman does not.. I would like to see both tbh as Tolman could take Myle's old workhorse role without the off field drama.. I would cop losing Tasi to get Tamou. I don't see why we would need to lose any other promising players.. Remember Tamou would be a 2014 purchase and it is unlikely SBW would be around then so that is $800K freed up, others like FPN could be moved on. Look at teams like the Bulldogs rosters and tell me we could not accomodate Tamou and Tolman for 2014.
Good points. However, if we just went with one, this is why I'd pick Tolman:
In my mind, right at the moment our forwards are just running out of puff rather than not breaking the advantage line in most cases, which is something that I think needs to be addressed. I think with a guy like Tolman out there playing 60, 70 minutes, we have a guy who can allow guys like JWH and Tasi to rip in, whereas I think Tamou doesn't quite give you that marathon performance. He'll give you 40-50, but I think 60-70 minutes is much better if we end up in a grinding forward battle.
I don't see Tolman's long-term future as a prop. I think he will be a world-class lock or second rower at some point in time, playing a hybrid version of Fensom and Gallen (120-130m a game, 35 tackles). Our strength in our junior forwards is in the front row department and I see a few of our senior backrowers getting shuffled on (FPN, Arona, Symonds, Bosden, Taka most at risk in my mind). If we pick up someone who can make the transition to lock or second row I think we will be better off.
I'm conscious of what happened at Melbourne. They developed a great team and I don't want us to get into the same position where either we have to cheat to keep them or we end up losing years of hard work. This is less likely to happen with Tolman than Tamou. Tamou is one of the hottest, if not the hottest, props in the comp at the moment. Tolman is unfashionable. That will surely change the price?
I think our biggest weakness is at hooker and great hookers don't come cheap. I'd prefer to save the difference between Tolman and Tamou and put everything we have left into signing a great little hooker. Srama and Reynolds would be my first two choices if we could get them.
So the team that cant attack in the oppositions 20, Cos they have the worst playmakers in the comp, needs a workhorse prop to get us to the top 8???
Is that what they all mean by structure???
Hey I was only referring to the Tolman v Tamou topic.. we also need badly a hooker (Jake Friend does not cut it for me). Not sure if you heard but we signed a 5/8 by the name of Maloney.. He will partner Pearce.. So regarding a playmaker that is what we have unless Pearce is not here beyond 2013. That wouldn't bother me if we picked up a decent alternative as Pearce will come with a price tag without the proven performance.. His fanboys will show us the stats but geez those stats don't seem to cut it when it comes to closing out a tight game. I have hopes with RTS but sadly we have Mini in 2013.
and a coach who can give us structure.. they don't come under the cap.. Also piss BJ out of the backline.. too many drop balls and brain explosions.. He is too dumb to play in the backs. With SKD already out there we already have our quota on dumb outside backs.
If I didn't know that Rooster6 was secretly in love or related to Tolman I would have thought this thread was some sort of joke, but knowing how much he rates Tolman I know otherwise. Unfortunately our team needs more than a 'Fantasy' superstar to make us competitive.

I was meaning the thread mate, not your post.
IMO we lack serious playmakers who can deliver clutch plays. Baloney and $BW will help so I guess the club sees the need also.
Maybe that's what R6 meant, on top of Baloney and $BW we need a workhorse prop???
I would never turn down a guy who regularly cracks the 150m a game mark, makes 30+ tackles and plays 60+ minutes a game. Fantasy star or not, these are the realities of Tolman.
One player to make us a top 8 side I thought you would go with someone like Inglis, Barba, Thurston. But yeah Jim Courier would be quite handy to have!
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
