From what I can understand the NRL will refuse to register his deal whilst he has a current yawnion deal, no matter who with. They don't allow any NRL player to have more than one contract in place at one time.

Remember when Marshall wanted to play yawnion in the offseason a few years ago - the NRL wouldn't allow it. He would have had to tear up his current NRL contract, sign the yawnion one and then sign another NRL one when he returned. Not surprisingly, the Tigers weren't happy with that.

So any contract cannot be finalised until after Scummy Bill has completed his yawnion escapade.

I suspect that's why he has only signed for a year, so he can play out the NRL contract, sign another short term Japan rugby contract and then return to the NRL when that's finished if he so wishes.

No point in announcing it until the deal is done, dusted and registered. Two much time and too much can happen before early next year.

Novice - That sounds like a clever way to earn $2 million in one year..

Which is the whole point of the exercise. Scummy Bill and his dodgy bros manager Nasser are the kings of money making. And I don't actually blame them, they are just taking advantage of opportunities being presented to them.

Still don't want Scummy Bill and his circus at the club though. But I'm resigned to the fact that he will more likely than not arrive.

NC that's what I understand the rules to be also. It's the registration of his contract issue.

I'm guessing doing it that way covers us also. Say he signs now then plays Yawnion and gets injured and is out for the year, he is still on our books and would count against the salary cap.

So I'm guessing the NRL not registering someone currently contracted to another sport is more an insurance/legal matter than anything else.

          You know it makes sense.

Surely if a deal has been done it would be in everyone's best interests to announce it now. Makes me suspicious that his people are up to some jiggery pokery and leaving their options open and he is still no certainty to come to us. Which would be disastrous if he doesn't after screwing us round for so long.
Nah, he's good to go, we're done and dusted with him.

            He's dead to us now.

You don't want arguably the best player in either code in the tricolours?

                Weird.

Should send him to China instead. He will come back bigger, faster, stronger and able to swim 50m in under 20s.

Yeah he's playing the first two tests against SA and Aus. Kinda shows the high regard he is held in by NZ Rugby for them to make that decision.

Yeh because a new signing is never ever mentioned during the season (where is that rolleyes icon??)

lol, did you see she came out and said with a straight face "I don't take performance enhancing drugs". No love, sure you don't, you've just swam the fastest time for a woman over 50 meters since Natalie Wood's attempt.
