Agree 100%
We are becoming Parramatta in the sense that we excuse our players for not putting in and the blame the coach. Sacking Smith isn't going to change anything, it will put us back even further.
The only justifiable reason for sacking Smith would be if we had Bellamy or someone of his caliber lined up already.

Don't get me wrong people, Smith is not the man to lead us into the future, he has lost the dressing room.He has to be replaced, he had his chance and blew it.
I would not throw Mini into that "not trying because he hates the coach" category, Mini just is not the player he used to be, he is reserve grade standard now but at least he has a crack, unlike other gutless pricks we have.

If the club is out to lunch of course it is Smith fault.
How is this for a scenario, you get offered 400k a year for 4 years to coach the Roosters on a hand shake deal with Nick. You come to the club & you have instant success taking the team from zero's to nearly hero's.
Then, I dont know if Smith over stepped the mark or if Nick interferred first but the 2nd year is a disaster mostly around T Carney who is eventually sacked, they sack Watts & Myles & Ryles leaves along with Linnett. None of us know who makes these calls, is it Nick? Just say it was but Smith wanted to keep 1 of them & wanted to get rid of Anasta but was over ruled again, so Smith decides to play the game & look after himself & his 400k per year salary. He stops really caring & just go's through the motions staying on Nick's good side by convincing him that the team is very young & need time to develop & that he is the man that can develop this young squad.
In saying all that I dont think Smith has the passion any longer & really is no longer a good coach.

However, is it not the coaches job to control the players ? If he can't reign the players in then we are buckley's chance of winning anything.
If they sook, cry, don't perform up to standard then Newtown is a great option. Let them run around Henson for a few weeks to realise what they are missing. Doesn't matter the profile of the player. Send a message out to the rest of them.
To me - Smith doesn't have the balls - to confront the players needing a spell or Uncle Nick. If he was a coaches arsehole, he would keep his dignity and tell the Nick to fark off out of the football department.
Look at Cleary. Saw the rot. Did not hesitate on acting on it, even though it meant some short term pain. Best two players on notice that they will be shipped out if they don't conform. Luke Lewis goooorne. Mick Jennings would of joined him if it wasn't for his fat contract.
Penrith was a prime example of what you are talking about. Players had too much say around there. The rot was deep.
Now they have a no-nonsense coach to deal with it.

A tradie never blames his tools,
I'm afraid Smith pointing at players has worn thin
Since pre season 2011 the team has not progressed one step
Two seasons of absolute rubbish from the coach team collective is beyond redemption"Qui audet adipiscitur"

These wanks learn to live with excuses because they listen and read their own press, they hear the same bullshit excuses from loyal / deluded fans that love blowing wind up the players arse.
They have no accountability, they go out and celebrate harder after a loss than a win.
It shits me when i am throwing things at the tele after a miserable performance, half the blokes do not give a flying fark and joke/laugh with the opposition organising another night on the town.
It shits me that it takes 2 of the young blokes in Cordner and Guerra to look like they give a shit behind the try line after another soft try through inept defence whilst our senior/rep/100+ gamer's stand there with their heads down twiddling their thumbs.
It shits me that we have some decent attackers out wide but for 90% of the game they get a cold because of useless inside balls.
You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink is a fair assumption of our team.
I am not privvy to what they do or do not do at training, but fark me they are adults, surely they have some feeling as to how the game is going, when and what kick is needed, when and what pass is needed etc etc.
I am sick to death of these blokes accepting an over inflated pay cheque based on reputation and pootential.
It is no co-incedence that there have been a handful of regular non performers when the rumours about the players being unhappy with the coach surface. They are the common denominaters in all of this.
It is a culture in our club, i remember Adrian Lam was ousted by the players in the 20's because he was "too hard" and " disciplined" on them.
If Only we had that discipline now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
