As for RTS, yes he is something special but don't forget he is in his first year of RL, still very green.
I think he needs to be eased into fullback, so a full year on the wing as a means to get him confident and NRL ready IMO is a sensible way to go.
I thought Mini went Ok (but couldnt see the whole game), nothing extra ordinary from what I saw but loved the try save by RTS on Morris. Will like to watch the whole game.
I'll tell you what's wrong with him, he's scared to put his body on the line! He runs sideways for three times the meters he runs forward, he will not own up in defence and his waddling along the tryline for the Creagh try was diabolical.
Retirement, stage right!
Chook.
Oh come on!!! I suppose catching bombs in mid air is a walk in the park? Apart from those two errors (40/20 & dropping in goals) he did well in defense. They all did well in defense.
The two "almost mistakes", the fact that he never offers anything in attack (when was the last time he actually broke the line as a ball runner?), and most importantly - that balls up 40/20 in the first few minutes. THAT is the type of thing that is unforgivable as a veteran and club leader. Absolutely zero awareness and could have easily lead to the young guys dropping their heads.
Yes, no doubt about it, mini could of quiete easily have cost us the game lastnight, for once we had abit of luck, and it didn't, but that decision to sign him again for next season, so early this season, was diabolical, he is passed NRL standard now, what was the big rush, it wasent as if every other club in the comp was chasing his signature, he should of been told a decision would be made late season, and if he was unhappy about that, let him know he was free to look around. No it looks like we are stuck with a player next season,. would will probably be at Newtown all year, taking up salary space.'As for captain no way, Maloney is the player to be given the captaincy, he will be running the show, and Cordner, being groomed to take over in a couple of years, as a long term captain.
Mini is long past his best and the club really needed to bite the bullet this year before he ruins his reputation at the club any further.
I love the guy, he's done a lot for the club & he was an amazing player before his back injuries. There's still a lot of good will towards him from a lot of fans as he was the face of our club for a long time but reality is in 2012 he's the worst fullback in the competition.
A fullback these days really needs to be one of two things (if not both);
- A creative Spark
- A good kick returner
Unfortunately Mini doesn't offer either, he constantly gets smashed on kick returns & for all the ball he receives he does very little with it if anything he's counterproductive to our attack.
Like I said I don't have a bad word to say about him but his time has passed him and it's a shame because I'm sure the captaincy will mean a lot to him next year. Smith needs to man up and make the tough call, the half measured decision would be just to put him on the wing but even then I have doubts over whether he'd still be up to it.
There should always be a place for Mini at this club, just not in the 17.

Good post.
Not wishing anything to happen, but.........a niggling injury to force an early retirement would be the kindest thing.
In saying all the above RTS is not ready yet to command the fullback spot -next year for him he is still learning and for now the wing is a good spot for him......We have to treat talent like his with caution not destroy him before he is twenty.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe
