  • the coaching plot thickens

apparently we have been in discussions to bring the current Eels caretaker coach Brad Arthur to the Roosters in 2013, in what capacity who knows, everyone knows Stuart has his own crew so Arthur will be surplus to requirements at the Eels but what does it mean in regards the Roosters coaching structure, are Elliot/Taylor on their way out or is Bellamy already assembling his staff for 2014.

I guess the most positive aspect of the discussions with Brad Arthur is the club has realised the current coaching structure is not working and needs to be shaken up, will be very interesting to see how things play out during the off season.

I know nothing about Brad Arthurs credentials but he certainly is one that was not on my radar.
Does Brad Arthur have a past working history with Bellamy?

yep Maguire and Arthur were both Bellamy assistant coaches, I don't think Arthur is being brought here as a head coach candidate but it is more interesting with the link with Bellamy.

Gee, could you imagine the icy relationship between coach Smith and assistant Arthur, if Smith thought he was brought in because of his relationship with Bellamy (as the rumoured head coach in waiting) ?

Could see a very dysfunctional coaching structure in place for next year ....really something we could do without !

If true, Brad Arthur would be looking for a head coach gig not an assistant's job.

An icy relationship? .... How much worse can it get than where we are at now.

            Bring him!

I saw an interview with Arthur where he was saying that he had the rest of this season to make his mark etc. but that he was looking forward to learning from Sticky next year. Fletch you've said that everyone knows that Sticky has his own coaching staff so Arthur won't be needed, who exactly is on Stuart's crew? It's not as if he has had them assembled in the wings waiting for him to get another NRL job? I find your post very vague "apparently we have been in discussions", where do you get that from??

I think Fletch was refering to the recent appointment of Dean Pay, and talk that Stuart is bringing in his Origin team i.e. Barrett, Ronnie Palmer etc.

its taken from the telucrap that is why I said apparently, so god knows what to believe

STUART might be busy making plans for next year, but it remains unclear whether caretaker Parramatta coach Brad Arthur will be at his side.

Arthur still has a year to run on his contract, but recent negotiations for a new start elsewhere next year suggest he might be on the move.

We can confirm Arthur's management has spoken to the Roosters and Rabbitohs about taking him on board next year.

The Rabbitohs approach comes as no surprise seeing as Arthur and Michael Maguire worked together under Craig Bellamy in Melbourne.

But the Roosters approach is more intriguing because of the heightening degree of doubt over Brian Smith's coaching structure.

Stuart, meanwhile, has already hired Dean Pay to be one assistant coach and is believed to be eyeing Trent Barrett or Matt Parish.

He also has a high opinion of Cronulla's strength and conditioning guru Trent Elkin, who remains a free agent for next year.

it would have been easier to state that in the first place..

I read that as he approached us and Souths. We could easily have said thanks but not thanks. Remember what paper this was written in and the spin they have put on it.

We don't need to be reminded what a bunch of Karmichaels that the Telegraph sports people are.

Yep please take anything the Telerag says with a grain of salt. It may be true BUT it may also be just another case of slinging mud at the club: Spreading rumours, stretching the truth and printing outright lies and fabrications about the Roosters are all part of the Telecrap's main functions. It's all about destabilising the club. Not saying there isn't any truth in it BUT I would err on the side of caution. They also said Brett Stuart was a done deal amongst many other things.
