  • Exclusive: Gus Gould to run Easts from 2014

Here is the scoop of a lifetime. Firstly, before you read what I am going to say and start planning your attacking response, just read this:

Gus Gould on coaching NSW: "If they're looking for a decision now for me to coach Origin, the answer would have to be no," Gould said. My situation could change dramatically in the next six months if they were prepared to wait but that may not fit into their timetable. I don't know what my life holds in the next 12 months. I don't know where the broadcast rights are going, whether I will be working in media, what the Panthers' situation will be like in that time."

Ladies and gentlement, we missed out on Ricky Stuart despite high-level interest in both camps, simply because Ricky couldn't wait one more year to get back into the club coaching game. The job here was his, if he was prepared to wait until 2014, so I am told. Why: because the Board does not want to sack another coach at this point in time.

From 2014, however, I am also told by an impeccable source - and no to the few dullards who will reply asking me to name my source, no - that the powers that be who run this place (not just the Chairman) want Easts to start winning premierships regularly, have had enough.

They have also woken up to who is available to run the joint as football "supremo". This supremo will effectively be the GM of football operations, and will be empowered to put in place a coaching staff as he sees fit.

This football supremo will basically be given the job for life, as long as the results trend the right way. This person is on our radar. We are on this person's radar. This person has served an apprenticeship running a football club and tough decisions have been made out there.... tough decisions that will ultimately benefit that joint after the lunatics finally realise they don't run the asylum.

From 2014, ladies and gents, there will be a new dawn at Bondi Junction. The person that saved the joint once before will be back. And this time he will mean business.

So we have Smith, Smith's son, Elliott, Brad Arthur, Craig Bellamy & Gus Gould on board so far for 2014. I hope we do all right.

If true i would like him to bring Freddy with him as i felt he was thrust too soon into the top spot, the guys a rooster legend and it would be criminal for him to be elsewhere.

LOL Mickey Lane... We turned down Ricky because Brad Arthur will save us! By the way you forgot to add Daniel Anderson and his uncle Chris. And Peter Sharp. Graham Murray, I'm also advised, is keen for a return and will save us too. I have also heard that a coaching triage of Freddy, Lozza and Bazza are available, though Jimmy Dymock is the front-runner. Craig Bellamy is mooted to become on-field trainer, and Geoff Toovey, Jason Taylor, Terry Lamb and Arthur 'Pony' Halloway will be backs coaches. Dean Pay is back as forwards coach alongside Royce Ayliffe and Sandy Pearce. Russell Fairfax will be brought on board as special "fullback mentor" for young RTS and Mark Murray is mooted to become tactics coach (couldn't do worse than Smithy).

.............seriously though, who would turn down Gus!

If this is a lie to beguile us into having hope, David...

No, it is not a lie. It's going to happen. We just have to wait one more year.

And I too hope Freddy is the coach. He and Gould could make us...something again.

So Gould didn't mean business last time?

Let's see what Freddy can do with the Blues first. A job he was born to do. And yes, Freddy was left to flounder in a head coach's job without support in an official capacity. He makes jokes about it at least once a week on NRL Deluxe but deep down it must have been frustrating to say the least. He even admitted he had no idea how to manage the interchange bench and left it up to someone else. Everyone deserves a second chance and I'd love to see Freddy back again one day.

We also need someone with a map and compass to find that dressing room that Smithy lost...I really hope they find it tomorrow otherwise the boys will get frostbite with nowhere to dress.
