Cherro was excellent last week as well, great to see him playing without strapping on his knees, means he is slowly gaining confidence again, one thing he hasn't lost is the ability to run a good line and hit a hole.

The Illawarra Cutters are the official feeder club (or reserve grade) for the St George-Illawarra Dragons NRL franchise and both the Jets and the Cutters were playing for places in the NSW Cup finals play-offs.

Newtown hit the lead first when Mose Masoe used his strength to dive over beside the Cutters' posts. Five-eighth, Jack Littlejohn, converted and Newtown led 6-0.

Defence was tight on both sides and numerous attacking moves by Illawarra broke down through errors until finally, they too scored and levelled the scores, 6-6.

The first half remained a tightly contested affair so that the 6-6 scoreline was carried into half-time.

Early in the second half, Anthony Cherrington crossed the line for the Jets' second try a few metres in from the sideline. Again Jack Littlejohn converted to give Newtown the lead, 12-6.

There was more than 25 minutes to go in the half when the five-eighth engineered the third try for Jack Bosden. Halfback, Daniel Mortimer, ran the ball to within a metre of the posts on the fifth tackle. The ball was passed quickly from dummy half to Jack Littlejohn who dabbed a kick in behind the surging defence and Jack Bosden dived through to ground the ball.

Jack Littlejohn kicked his third conversion and the lead went out to 18-6 but within minutes, the Jets gave up their 2-try lead through fast play, offloads and speedy running by the Cutters left-side backs. 18-18.

The Newtown side seemed to have lost all momentum. As the clock ticked down, Illawarra made strong runs into the Jets half and finally scored an easy try which they converted - 18-24.

A hush came over Newtown supporters on the Hill and in the King George V grandstand. Another defeat from the jaws of victory? There was even less reason for optimism when Illawarra kicked a field goal and extended their lead to 7 - 18-25.

A few replacements seemed to restore energy and determination. Back came the Jets with a wonderful try halfway between sideline and posts by the big front-rower, Saulala Houma. Five-eighth, Jack Littlejohn stepped up again with a wonderful conversion.

Only about two minutes remained and the Jets were still behind by one point. From the kick-off, the Jets drove up field. They had just passed the Cutters' 40 metre line when one of the opposition players was penalised for an indiscretion. What were the Jets to do?

Seconds remained on the clock. They had no choice but to take the penalty kick, 35 metres out and about 10 metres in from touch. Jack Littlejohn stepped up to take his most difficult kick of the afternoon, and with victory riding on the result.

AND HE KICKED THE GOAL!!!!! HENSON PARK ERUPTED!!! With the 2 points from next week's BYE, the Jets were into the finals!

dont get all excited about the jets....
i just had a look at their site and went to the nsw cup ladder and saw we(the jets) are in 7th on 29 points. on the ladder it also shows us as 24 rounds next to us. this means we have already been awarded 2 points for the bye. so below us is 3 other teams on 28 points. so if one or two of them win and get to thirty points we are gawnski
