Agreed. But I believe he is beginning to get that part of his play right this season, his selection of kicks to suit the situation.

IMO he really needs to learn how to be a clutch player, to own the result, to be a match winner. That takes time and he is fortunate enough to have this on his side. That's if it ever happens, the real good ones do the deed of winning games instinctively.

Unfortunately he has only had Carntey so far in his career to learn from in this reguard. Hopefully next years signings can impart some expierence in this area of his game.

I'd keep him if I was the one doing the books. I really believe he can be instrumental with his experience so far, having to learn on the run so far, and doing so for the majority of his career under different coaches with questionable methods and without alot of help from his 9 and 6 and 1.

    The FlogPen .

    You know it makes sense.

We wont be able to sign anyone that is near his equal. There are not a lot of good halfbacks around anymore and, as maligned as Pearce seems to be, we will regret letting him go.

As far as I am concerned, he costs what he costs.

Pearcesworsenightmare, your starting to sound a little like Fred and Rothfield here.
You just can't stop bagging him can you?
While you keep turning that knife you have stuck in his back think about this. He didn't ask to be born on the northern beaches with a silver spoon in his mouth to a famous father. He gets paid what he gets paid because his manager negotiated a good contract for him. If the Roosters want to pay him what his on then that's not his fault.
He is a talented footballer who enjoys himself off the field. There is many more like that playing in the nrl and some who earn more then him and probably get up to worse things then he does away from playing.
If your prepared to let go of him who do you suppose takes his place? I only see 1 player who I would choose and that is DCE. Thurston has what 4 maybe 5 years left and you can't garauntee he will still be playing the same level of footy that he is now. Same with Cronk. Like it or not, he is in the top 5 halfbacks in the comp and he is going to be there for a long time.
When our forwards do there job Pearce plays well. It's like any team, if your forwards are not traveling well then there is no platform for your halfback to work off. We must retain him as there is no one better to replace him with.
DCE just extended, so did Cronk and Turston will cost too much. Pearce has at least 8 years of footy ahead of him before age catches up. The right coach can work on all the little things he needs to improve in his game ie. short kicking, decision making and ability to control a game properly.
He debut at 17 remember under a has been coach, then improved under Freddy who wasn't ready to be a first grade coach and now has Smith who has done SFA in terms of addressing any of these issues. All the while with a back rower at 6, an uncreative 9 and 1.
We are starting to see these young blokes come through like Cordner,Shek and Moga who are going to provide more attacking options for Pearce. He has the ability, just needs the troops around him and proper guidance. Letting him go would be a real dumb move by the roostes

Never ever compare Fittler and Pearce, I grew up with Freddy , he was a multi talented kid, with no fatherly influence, his mother was a lovely lady. From a working class family in the burbs. If he was not so immensely talented at sports, he would be a regular at centrelink.

Pearce born on the Northern beaches with a silver spoon in his mouth, a famous father, who's name he could live off and get a leg up through life.

Freddy was always a leader and a matchwinner, Pearce is a toiler who throws some great things in amongst a whole bag of shit.

As for " It is a generational thing"

PLease at 23 yrs of age surely you are old enough to make your own decisions in regards to how much is too much, how often is too often, he has been given a career earning big bucks, more than many here can imagine earning.

It is hardly a generational thing, it is a personal choice
St Ives is not exactly the northern beaches...

pearce - the only non-finals player on the dally-m leaderboard from tonight. might I add that he ranked ahead of all halves except thurston and cronk. not bad for someone who had a poor year in a poorly performing team

                    Chook speaks sense again.

TBH he hasnt been my favourite player and he hasnt set the number 7 world alight this year. But I reckon we are not seeing the best of him and hopefully that changes next year with the changes that will and might come.

My wish is that we swap Pearce for JT... I'll ask Santa to grant me that wish.

Not bad for a Half in the 13th placed team !

From catching a venereal disease from the whores in Artarmon. Yes, I concur.

Ballanital chancroids, Gonococcal Urethritis and meningomyelitis would severely hamper his otherwise average skills.

With the slow service from Friend he gets from dummy half even Thurston would struggle to create, with a more dominant pack, faster service from dummy and an alternative in attack as in Maloney/SBW i think he will thrive.

Not bad for a player who was the third biggest flop of the year according to 'expert' Phil beetroot face Rothfield!! Anyone who didn't believe this idiot writes agenda driven crap before surely does now. His own people / organisation voted Pearce in the top 10 of players for the year, but somehow he's the third biggest flop.
