I suggested that we appoint Robinson nearly a month ago in this thread:

    http://www.thechookpen.com.au/forum/...an-Smith/page2

I'm happy with him being picked and I think that he should be fairly popular amongst the players and fans. He has a quiet demeanor amongst the team and he is one of those people who when he has something to say, people listen.I had the pleasure of meting him at a coaching clinic that I took my kids to, and he seemed like a genuine bloke.

    Welcome back trent and goodluck.

I thought there was going to be a 'royal commission' on what went wrong and then appoint a coach. I think it's too soon. It should have happened after the GF. Personally I'm not sure this guys success as a coach but I think he's just a rookie

Sydney Roosters gamble on rookie Trent Robinson

      by: Brent Read
      From: The Australian
      September 07, 2012 12:50PM

THE Sydney Roosters have officially called time on their pursuit of Craig Bellamy after announcing former assistant Trent Robinson as their head coach for the next three seasons.

Robinson, who served as an assistant under Brian Smith, is currently coaching French side Catalans in the English Super League and will join the Roosters when his commitments are completed in the south of France.

Importantly, his appointment is likely to be met with approval form the Roosters' playing group, many of whom credit Robinson with being a pivotal force behind their charge to the 2010 grand final.

The Australian foreshadowed his possible appointment in July but it is understood talks stepped up a notch this week after the club decided to cut loose Smith. Bellamy had been the favourite for the job but that would have meant installing an interim coach for a year until he was free of his contract with the Storm.

The Roosters eventually decided they couldn't wait that long. They had been expected to wait until after Robinson had finished his commitments with Catalans but the news leaked to French newspapers, which reported his imminent departure overnight.

"We are extremely pleased that Trent will be joining the Roosters after agreeing to terms for the next three years. We believe that he is the ideal candidate to take the Roosters forward with regard to what we aim to achieve in terms of success," Roosters chairman Nick Politis.

"Trent was a key contributor to the Roosters success in 2010 and while he is still a relatively young coach, he already has pedigree and experience gained over his time as an assistant coach in the NRL and as a head coach in the Super League.

"We wish Trent well with the Catalans Dragons finals campaign and look forward to welcoming him back to the Sydney Roosters ahead of the commencement of the club's 2013 pre-season," he added.

Robinson, who spent four years in the Roosters junior system, played only a handful first grade games with the Wests Tigers and Parramatta. He spent the remainder of his playing career in France - he speaks fluent French and has a French partner - before begining his coaching career with Toulouse.

He then served as an assistant to Smith at the Newcastle Knights for three years before joining his long-time mentor at the Roosters in 2010

Big risk. 3 yrs?? Would have liked 2 with a third in our favour.
Only time will tell. Nick has to get behind him now, give him everything that he wants in terms of support off the field and tell Elliott to fark off.
If we are winning we will attract big name players that's how it works so hopefully a successful season or two for Robbo in we could have players lining up to come here.
I hope Trent comes in with some authority and discipline, sets some guide lines out for the players and if there not happy show them the door. Good luck Trent, looking forward to next year already

I'm very happy Taylor won't be the coach.

I actually like the fact that TR has been part of the system previously & yet he still wants to come back. For those who think that Nick is the ultimate puppet-master, surely TR would have seen how the Coach & the CEO interacted back in 2010, so he is fully aware of what he is walking into, so good luck TR, be your own man & take this mighty club back to where it belongs.

There are only so many top coaches going around, and none of them are available. Someone has to step up and hopefully Trent can do just that. I'm pleased Smith is gone. Hopefully the money saved by appointing an up and coming coach can go into the wider football department. It's a shame Dean Pay has been signed by the eels as I would have liked him in the support staff.

For the record, Smith's son Keegan is the strength and conditioning coach under Trent at Catalans.

How about Mini and his mate that put his body back together be our strength and conditioning team.. throw in Fitzy for good measure.

Can we have Todd Carney back now that the Mother Farker coach has been ejected prematurely?

And they can buy an extra airfare when getting Robbo's and sit Adrian Morley next to him to be his forwards coach!

Time will tell. Anyway, I'm prepared and interested to wait & see what happens. All I ask is that Robinson instils in the team the ablility to catch & pass, grubber to the in goal occasionally and fix the discipline and defence. If he can do these basic things (which Smith couldn't) then we should improve and that's all I'm after at this stage. There is no reason why this team shouldn't perform to a top 8 standard if properly coached the basics.

Well it would be a smart move if the club has managed to come to an arrangement with Robinson that the deal is for 1 year with a 2 year option. With an understanding that Robinson would step aside if we get Bellamy for 2014 or would stay on for years 2 and 3 if we don't get Bellamy. Also allows the club to announce the deal as a 3 year deal taking the focus of the prospect of getting Bellamy whilst negotiations can take place in the background.

Not saying this is what is happening but it is a possibility imho.
