And tom Symonds is better than most of the backrowers named.
His name is Peni Tagive and he has just retired from Rugby League to pursue a University degree

I remember asking Matt Burke what the main difference was.

According to him it was the continuous tackling, getting up and running back 10 metres, then doing it again and again and again. Then it was half time, and back to tackling, running back, tackling etc.

Plus he had to mark Mal Meninga, Michael O'Connor etc as opposed to some private school graduates.

      • No wonder Brett Papworth fell apart. His poor body had to actually do some work.

What a thorough disappointment he was here after being such a good player at Manly...

He also better brush up on his defence did you see him in the semis come in quite a few times off his wing and be left in no mans land, apart from that he looks a likely prospect especially under the high ball and does have speed to burn I don't think he'll be a walk up start.

From memory weren't most of Pappys problems in RL before contact???

I'm sure I remember him at the 7s one year, he'd been braining them all day, then he picked up ball in the in goal, turned to bring it back and collapsed like he'd been snipered, popping his knee. From memory that was the last straw and he retired.

What could've been, the bloke could play.

Yeah. I wish we go to see more of him in the RW&B, instead of in plaster.

                • Alot of the best ever captains were never superstars, just good honest toilers, but they brought that extra something to the table, when it came time for them to captain a side. A coach will go for that person everytime, if he feels he is the right man for the job. Greedy, you never enlightend us to your choice of captain, and please dont leave us in the dark, hanging for your chosen words . If Pearce was on top of his game, and was determined to be here in the long term then, maybe yes, to him, other then that, its daylight behind what Maloney will bring to the position.

That was actually a first grade match at Marathon against Newcastle.. He actually played the first 3 games that season and survived unscathed until that match.. It was in open space and he just collapsed in a heap.. The first time I saw him play for the Roosters was a reserve grade match in his first season at the club which I think may have been against the Bulldogs at the SFS.. I had just arrived and settled into my seat when I looked around the field to see where Papworth was.. I couldn't make him out and then realized he may have been the guy who was on the ground in a heap.. a few minutes later and he was stretchered off with his first season ending injury... poor guy...

and then the final straw was breaking his arm/jaw? trying to tackle Rod Wishart?

Shit, that would've been his record 3 games of RL before a season ender.

He definitely went down in a 7s game, I'm sure of it mate.

Anyone remember the game I'm talking about???

Looking at his stats he played 2 games in 88, 1 in 90 and 4 in 91 when he retired. Maybe he was injured in the 7s in 89, and never played a game that year???

All I can find about his injuries are jaw, shoulders and knees.

This would make a good trivia question.

That was round 1 in 1990.

He pulled up stumps after he did his knee for a second time early in 1991.

Did we lose that game 8 or 10 nil?

Pretty sure I was at that game.

Brendon Hall told me to piss off in the carpark after it when I asked him for his autograph.

                              C*NT!
