I can't imagine they'd be sacking and paying out anyone until the new coach arrives and sees the lay of the land.

That said, I hope Robinson boots Elliot.

Put it this way if Trent said to Politis that he didn't feel that it was in the best interest of the team to sign SBW because he wanted to build a team where everyone is on similar money rather than 1 on 800k for 1 season while others were on 100k, Nick would say badluck or dont coach us.
Rookie or not, every NRL coach would welcome SBW into their roster. Mini is the big one for mine. It's obvious he conned a swansong extension from Nick on sentimentality alone. Should TR override that stupid decision we'll know we're on a winner in that department. It's been done before by a Rookie coach at the Roosters. In 2002 Sticky overruled Nick and Gus when they wanted to play Hodges after a protocol breach but Sticky said no, discpline was more important and so fatso missed a week.

      Chook.

Season 2013 all hinges on the decisions which Robbo chooses to make before the season starts. RTS needs to start at fb. The kid is more capable of breaking the line than Mini and would be lethal on Kick returns especially if he is returning kicks with Moga (who hopefully is on the wing). If mini starts at FB and if this nasty rumour of him being made captain are all true, the we can pretty much kiss 2013 goodbye before the season even starts. Mini needs to play on the wing and either JWH or Pearce need to be made captain.

I am an optimist beleive it or not, but Mini is holding a young star out of his position. His second decision needs to getting rid of Elliott and Rohan Smith, no explanation needed.

He wasnt in the frame for the Head Coaching job, so the club will probably look at hime doing lower grades or pay him out.

Instead of the SBW example we will go with the Mini example.

You have followed the Roosters for a long time, so between now & 2013 kick off do you think the Roosters will show Mini the door?

Nick is very loyal to certain people & Mini is 1 of them IMO, Nick's loyalty to Mini will be 1 last season & you will be captain, it doesn't matter who the coach is thats the way it will be.

In regards to Ricky overruling Nick in regards to Hodges that may well be the case but not selecting someone for a week is alot different to saying to Nick you want to move our most senior player a club legend on, when the average age in the team is 22.

Rohan and Robinson would know each other quite well, having worked at both Newcastle and the Roosters together. So it could be that Rohan is a chance of keeping his position. Robinson could in fact bring another Smith to the fold with him in Keegan, who is currently strength and conditioning coach at Le Catelans.

Chook the bold part of your post is what I see as TR's defining moment, watch this space! Although I can certainly see that Mini as a senior player from 2010, will probably have an ally in TR & that's where it will be an almost impossible decision for him, but that's why they pay him the big bucks, Head Coaches live & die on the tough decisions.

Try & keep up NC, this is from my original post:

How much of a team is TR & Smith's other son (the strength & conditioning coach for Catalans), surely Smith's other son (to be known as SOS from now on!) couldn't follow him to Easts & Easts keep the 2 Smith sons after dumping the Dad!?!?

YES, I was just thinking the exact same thing earlier this morning. This is quite a concern, because Trent is mates with the Smiffy family he may feel obliged to keep Rohan on and bring Keegan over from France with him. This would be a huge mistake!! This is where for one of the rare times it will be good thing for Nick to intervene and not allow the jobs for mates thing to happen.

The best thing for the Roosters would be a trade off between Trent and Nick, where Trent wants Mini to go for Nick wanting the entire Smiffy family gone!
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                    Here's looking at you, kid.

Sorry BA, didn't have a lot of time and obviously speed reading is obviously not my strong point.

The Roosters should be judging both Smith sons on their own merits and achievements, not on the fact they are Brian's sons.

If Robinson wants either or both of them as part of his team, then he should have the power to employ them. After all, he is the only one who lives or dies with the performance of the side and so deserves to have the team that he wants. Roosters players and management manage to keep their jobs regardless of how shyte they are.

Why would sack Smith and keep half his team around?? When you bring in a new coach you have to almost start afresh with a blank canvas.

Yes I do. Loyalty is an attribute Nick coverts, but success is another he coverts even more. Politis went on record earlier this year stating "the days of Roosters paying out coaching contracts are over", less than 26 weeks later Smith is shown the door with a full year to run! And this is a coach Politis has a lot of respect for. He can and does change his mind and no one, not even Nick, can argue that Mini is not past his use by date by a long long long long long long time. Whether it's by mutual agreement, a re-occurence of the back injury, a sudden lack of motivation, I do not believe Mini will be playing for us next year.

With Nick's decision to release Smith a year early I think he has recognised that even with SBW and Maloney coming in 2013, we have a limited window to win a comp. It'll be only 2 maybe 3 years before we start to lose some of our young guns and have to replace them and so we cannot waste one of those years carrying Uselesschello. And that's why I think he'll be gone before we kick off.

                            Chook.

That's right Roosterfarian, you are better off with a complete fresh start, leaving nothing stale (Rohan) behind. I think it would be a safe bet that the players would like to see the back of Rohan, just like they did with his father. Things could be quite awkward if he stays.

I can remember on many occasions this year and last, watching the expressions of the players faces while in a huddle behind the try line after yet another try had been scored, looking at Rohan while he is giving them a big spray. You did not have to be a mind reader to see that expressions on their faces were saying "just shut the f**k up Rohan, what the f**k would you know, you only have this job because of your old man!!"
