If these prima donners had shown as much commitment on the paddock as they did off it sooking about the coach, we may have won a few more games.

Our players, particularly the senior ones have no excuses left for underperforming as they have the coach they wanted. Maubs, FPN, Pearce, Friend and SKD need to show vast improvement to warrant the coin they are on. I'm preapred to be lenient on many of the younger guys, but these senior blokes seriously need a crash course in leadership and what it means.

    Chook.

      Two possible reasons.

      1. This club is being run by retards who spend most of their days banging their heads against a wall.

      2. This club is being run by people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing and spend most of their days banging their heads against a wall.

Glad this is not multiple choice cause I choose both.

Well, my vitriolic rage against Steve Noyce is well known around here.

I'll use Gerry Harvey in relation to Nick Politis. There's calls for Gerry Harvey to step down from the top of Harvey Norman, in the Herald this morning specifically. There have been similar calls for Nick to do the same.

              Compare the two.

              Both in their 70s.
Both very successful in earlier days but have hit rough times of late.
Both have great respect from people but that respect is waning.
Both have been accused of making poor decisions lately, Harvey not getting into the online sales and Politis with some of his interference in Roosters recruitment.

Perhaps it is time they both moved on.

There is always an excuse. Finch/Sticky/Opes/Freddy/Mason/Myles/Carney/Smith. Robinson's inexperience could very easily be the next excuse.

Crybabies Pearce and FPN need to booted out. Geriatric Mini needs to be put down. The rest need to prove their value for money or also be booted out.

The article is a bit disingenuous. While I feel the players shouldn't determine whether a coach is sacked or not the players support for a particular coach is important to the fabric of the team. No doubt the best teams are ones whether the players do like and respect their coach so that their fundamentally believe in them and they play for them. The Storm players love Bellamy - that's obvious enough. Who is stupid enough to say that their success hasn't been enhanced by the favourable relationship he has with his players?

One really positive instance of 'player power' came at the end of the 2002 AFL season. The Swans had ditched Rodney Eade and appointed one of his assistants, Paul Roos as the interim coach. While he was expected to lead the team until the end of the season it was widely acknowledged that the Swans admin was chasing hard for Terry Wallace (a very experienced and at that time, highly credentialed coach). However at the end of their last game all the players gathered around Roos in the middle of the ground and started chanting his name.

That was them telling the club who they wanted as coach. While it hasn't been admitted by the Swans they then decided to break a handshake agreement with Wallace and appoint Roos.

The rest is a bit of a fairytale. Despite a multitude of people picking them for the wooden spoon in 03 they got to a prelim. In 2005 they won the premiership, breaking a 72 year premiership drought. They backed it up with another GF in 06 and a succession of finals appearances.

In his 8 and a bit years of coaching, the Swans only missed the finals once. Further they have the most envied player culture in the league (might I add, centered on the notion of player empowerment), a legacy that lives today. He is the Swans most successful coach and brought to the club one of the most successful periods in their long history.

That's what player power can do. Is that what will happen to the Roosters, idk - it really depends on Robinson's ability. However the fact that the players have already given him respect and the fact that he knows their opinion of him improved his chances of appointment, should bode well when they get together this preseason. Coaches have to earn respect; he already knows he has it.

I don't hold much stock in the likes of Mitchell Pearce knowing his arse from his elbow, let alone who should coach the team.
