    Stats

    Played: 20
    Tries: 3
    Points: 12
    Tackles: 480
    Run Metres: 1449
    Hit-ups: 189

2012 was a break out year for Tinirau Arona.

The current Cook Islands Player of the year missed just 6 matches for the Tricolours all season extending his record to 33 NRL matches.

Often coming off the bench Arona was one of the club's hardest working forwards, seemingly involved in everything when he took to the field.

Always difficult to tackle with a great ability to hit and spin out of tackles Arona managed to crash over for three tries this season.

To top a great individual year, Arona re-signed with the club for a further two seasons.

I'm not sure if he's first grade material?

Fairly average player who seems to be a stop-gap solution atm. Given we have a wealth of forwards, he and a few others will be disposable..

Yeh Chook, I reacon Symonds, Masoe and Arona should all go. The new signing from hull and Sbw will do plenty for our pack, add Maloney and Oldfield and our backs are also in good order. Having Trent as our coach is both exciting and encourageing for players and fans alike.

I think he has the potential to be a handy player.

          Just needs some decent coaching.

I am not sold on Arona. I much prefer Jack Bosden as the worker in the pack to take his position. I actually think Symonds has something and if he can have an injury free run we may actually see what he can do but he is behind in the pecking order currently.. Masoe is another one who it is probably hard to assess without seeing what he can do under Robinson. By all reports Brian Smith placed a low priority on fitness training so for a guy like Masoe, this would not exactly help... I can't but help be reminded of George Rose being let go for being unfit and despite not being a world beater, gave Manly a lot of good service.

Symonds is no hack. He's had a terrible run with injuries, but when he's been able to string a few healthy games together he's produced some good football. Masoe is a bitter dissapointment. I know he was still having neck problems, but still, he's involvement is negligible at best.

I don'r mind Arona. He's no superstar, but he puts in every week, and his workload is good. Every team a needs a few blokes like that on their roster.

I actually think Symonds is an old school type of player.

Likes to hit holes and can use the ball also.

There aren't too many of those players around these days.

                I would persist with him.

Symonds is good, I consider him like Maubbs with a higher work rate ... however just like Maubbs when he is on the field he puts in but just cant seem to get over the advantage line when doing the hard yards

We just can't afford having both in the same team imo. As you said, their work rates are not exactly outstanding. It's one or the other, unless one of them doesn't mind playing reserve grade

                        I like Arona.

He gets through a bit of work in the short time he's on and can ball play aswell.

Maybe he can have tackling lessons with SKD, Moga, Maloney and Takarangi.

Are you saying he can't tackle?

He was a Smith Project, much Like Nuuasala, Johno Ford, aliomali, etc. It wouldn't suprise me if Arona and FPN end up following Smith to wherever he ends up.

Masoe in my opinion can be used as a weapon, kasiano style. But he just needs the correct coach. We should be using him in a capacity where he only plays for 10-15 minutes maximum a half, when opposition forwards tire out. Manly use George Rose in a similar way. The guy is a beast and loves our club. I met once at a fan day and I couldn't believe the size of the guy.I think there is potential there but we need to work on it.

Tasi is another who is worth persisting with. I don't know where all the bulldogs rumors have come from but I hope they aren't true. The kid has a good motor and Like masoe, he needs the proper attitude instilled in him by the coach.Bosden is one that I would like to see moved into the front row. I think this kid has the ability to be the tolman-like worker that we need in the team. He has good size and a good motor, but looks out of place in the backrow on the fringes. Beef him up and give him a stint in the middle.

For mine, regardless if FPN wins the dally m next year, he is one who needs to go. I hate those people who play for contracts in one year and then the next year do jack shit in most games and turn up for a handful of games. The guy has massive attitude problems and needs to be let go.
                              Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"
