  • QUADE Cooper possible switch to the NRL next year

QUADE Cooper has confirmed a switch to the NRL next year to play alongside close friend Sonny Bill Williams remains a possibility.

On the eve of the Wallabies' must-win match against the Springboks, Australia's five-eighth addressed the subject after Williams revealed to The Sunday Telegraph he was trying to lure Cooper to the 13-man code in 2013.

"We've definitely had a chat about it and it's more about playing with each other," Cooper told Fox Sports. "It's something that I'd really like to do in the future. And seeing what he's (Williams) done in rugby, and having a talent like that in and around you would be a massive achievement to play with.

"Whether it'd be in rugby or league it'd be something that I'd definitely be open-minded about."

Cooper, who agreed to a three-year deal with Queensland in June, has yet to sign the binding ARU top-up contract that will keep him in Australian rugby and remains a free agent.

I hope he's not thinking of coming here. We have James and don't need him. As a rugby player I don't even rate him .... just look at the rugby World Cup and you will see what I mean.

I'd sign him in a heartbeat. I think he'll be yet another player that the Roosters faithful think will be crap but ends up being brilliant. Like Shaun Johnson, Tony Williams and James Graham. We were linked with each of those guys in the past but the supporters decided they would never amount to much and our interest cooled.

Is SBW going to give him part of his salary to get him here? Do they think we are the dogs?

He can only play fullback and if that jeopodises RTS position at the club after 2013 he can go and play with SBW somewhere else if he has to be his handbag.

So it's a free ride for RTS then? Weren't we complaining only a week ago that we had no recognised fullbacks at the club except for the vastly inexperienced RTS and a has-been in Mini?

And Quade is a recognised league fullback?

Would you rather RTS or Cooper play fullback next year? How much would each be taking out of our salary cap? Who do you believe will be a better NRL fullback in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 years?

Let's give this pretender $500K and see if he is any better than he is at his own game. Puuhhhllleeeaaassseeee!!!!!!

Mate, I don't care who plays at fullback next year. I want competition. We've had no competition at fullback for the past three years and we've now got ourselves into the position we have with Mini. Does Mini provide competition for RTS? Not at all.

You seem to think RTS is a guaranteed great player. I would argue he has undoubted talent but has proven jackshit, and needs the competition to keep him honest.

He's talented but has issues and I don't like him, but we all grow up... Who knows. If SBW wants him to come here, meaning that the contract for SBW will be more than 1 year, then bring him in. He could be a good utility player.
