someone on the real wall has reported that this guy has signed up coming from inside the dragons camp. I have heard of him and am pretty sure he has scored plenty a try in the NYC so not a bad signing at all. Not the most skillful player from what I have seen but can find the line and has a nice turn of pace. Plays similar to a joel monaghan. Decent pick-up. cbf to look up his stats etc so mack from what you have seen which is probably a couple more games than me can you enlighten us a little more on this bloke

One of the better centres in the NYC, but still, not a standout by any means - 20 games, 12 tries, 14 linebreaks.
He isn't freakishly talented at breaking the line and scoring tries (a strike centre) like:
Blake Davey (Manly - 15 games, 17 tries, 13 linebreaks)
Drury Low (Raiders - 18 games, 13 tries, 17 linebreaks)
...and he isn't as individually devastating at breaking through tackles (power centre) as:
Moses Pangai (Cowboys - 20 games, 8 tries, 96 tackle breaks)
Siuatonga Likiliki (Warriors - 20 games, 9 tries, 118 tackle breaks)
...nor is he as just simply dominant in the U20's like:
Daniel Vidot (Raiders - 14 games, 12 tries, 15 linebreaks, 63 tackle breaks)
Junior Vaivai (Rabbitohs - 19 games, 20 tries, 26 linebreaks, 96 tackle breaks)
Rusty Bristow (Warriors - 13 games, 9 tries, 13 linebreaks, 68 tackle breaks)
He falls in the middle ground of the NYC centres, with Sam Joe (Storm - 17 games, 12 tries, 12 linebreaks) and Dylan Farrell (Souths - 18 games, 11 tries, 13 linebreaks). Linnett isn't really a standout centre by any means, his linebreaking ability, his tryscoring ability, and his skill to set up his outside man, are all middle ground. His speed isn't anything flash either, he is tall and rangy, almost like a backrower.
Again, if we have picked him up, it would be an okay signing, BUT there are far better centres in the NYC that would suit what we need a LOT more. He isn't any better than Ryan Williamson to be completely honest, and wouldn't be much more of an upgrade over Mitchell Aubusson. The Monaghan comparison is pretty good, he isn't the biggest or fastest centre, but I can imagine that with good service and plenty of go-forward he would do well - just don't expect any individual magic on a Jennings level. However if our centres get little ball anyway, then we will never see the best of him.

Linnett is a specialist centre.
He is just very young, firstly.
And second, he is far from the best centre. He is not a strike centre in the way that Michael Jennings, Willie Tonga, Krisnan Inu or Josh Morris are, nor is he a power centre like Brett Delaney, Jamal Idris, Ben Pomeroy or Steve Matai. He is more like a Joel Monaghan or Colin Best style player - tall, lanky, some pace without being lightning, can be targeted by attacking bombs, and can finish well.
That is my best attempt at describing his style. No confirmation on whether he is coming. I will hop on LU for more info.

Seriously though, if he comes I hope he goes well at the Roosters. Any player that signs for the Roosters is showing faith that things will get better."The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

I think that before anything, we need to bring out the broom and sweep out a few players who are simply too average for first grade, like
- Nick Kouparitsas
- Sonny Tuigamala
- Smith Samau
- Matthew Hall
- Stanley Waqa
- Sisa Waqa
...as well as some of the misfiring U20's players who will be too old for NYC next year, like Mark Talanoa, Ray Tafokitau, Valeni Tia Tia and Robbie Williams.
That will clear out a lot of space in both competitions for some serious young talent to flourish. I don't mind Sandor Earl and Kane Linnett being the two reserve outside backs for the first grade squad, both are tall, strong, and have potential. We do need, IMO, one more fast centre just to strengthen our depth.
