Sydney Roosters player Peni Tagive has today announced his retirement from rugby league.
A key member of the Newtown Jets 2012 NSW Cup Premiership winning side, 24-year-old Tagive has decided to retire to pursue fulltime university study where he will be undertaking a Bachelor of Business.
Tagive made his NRL debut with the Wests Tigers in 2008 in a round 1 match against the St George Illawarra Dragons whom he joined in 2011, before joining the Sydney Roosters in 2012. In a career hindered by injury, he played five NRL games with the Tricolours and 18 overall in the top grade.
“I want to thank everyone at the club for their support through the year and for supporting the decision I have made for my future, as I look ahead to life after footy,” said Tagive.
“From the admin staff to the players and coaches, everyone’s been really good to me and I’ll still call the Roosters my family.
“I’d like to wish the boys and everyone at the club all the best for next season.”
Roosters chief executive, Steve Noyce, added: “We are all truly pleased for Peni. While the decision he has made has been a difficult one, it’s wonderful that he has decided to undertake fulltime university study, and we congratulate him on this exciting new chapter he is about to embark on.”
“Popular among his teammates and with all the staff at the club, the Sydney Roosters would like to take this opportunity to thank Peni for his contribution to the Roosters and to wish him all the very best for the future.”
