  • Who should stay and who should go now.....

I cant remember in many a year an Easts team that is so bad so here is my take on the squad and who should stay go

Perrett - Been great. Should stay as fullback or centre
SKD - I am willing to give him a go as he is young but has shown good glimpses
Maubs - Definately stay but needs to be at lock
sa - On last chance but should stay as backrower or bench backrower
hauraki - surely we can get a better winger
Mini - all class and will get better with more games. Definately keep if he can stay injury free.
Braith - should go IMO we will never win a comp with him at 5/8th. See how good Pearce has been without him. Carney at 5/8th And Maubs will be a better lock.
Pearce - Fark me he cops some criticism off the gumby's in here but he has been great. If he was playing for the Dragons or Dogs he'd be leading the Dally M's and would probably be NSW number 7.
Fitzy - already gone but wish he wasnt
    Soliola - See ya....useless
Mason - Jury is still out for mine. If can find some form and cause no disruption to the team then keep otherwise fark off
FPN - has great potential and is starting to show a bit of an offload. Keep
Friend- will develop into a top class rake. Only 19 and shows plenty of skill and toughness
    Lopini - useless...bye bye

Waqa (both waqa's) theres the door
Kouparfakenhellwhatshisname - possibly the worst signing since Vautin. Piss off
Jones - still cant see what the fuss is about. Hasnt done anything in the top grade to warrant me getting excited
Riley Brown - not needed when jaubs comes back and plays off the bench
Symonds - good player. definately worth keeping

    Youngins to being up

Dane Cordner - fark me hed have a good crack
Williamson - surely has to be a better centre than Sa and Maubs

We certainly need to buy a couple of new players especially in the centres and a winger (maybe Lote?)

Huraki has done nothing wrong in my opinion.
Soliola has had a tough year with way to many mistakes but his not useless. He is just about the only player in our team who can do hits and is very tough.
Jones has been good for us. Not excellent but down that left edge in attack all year has been great. Not to mention the kid is still 19
Also Lopini Paea had a great year last year, but not as dominant this year. Cannot be given the sack due to his teams downfall.

The only player I would let go is Sa. Soft defense and doesn't add a lot in attack

FPN is very young for a front rower so has many years to develop. Koupawhatthefarkshisname is just crap!

We have a crap team. Why do you think we're coming last? It's not rocket science.

PLease Dolphin im still in stiches from watching the fame, your comedic attempts are now giving me cramps.

MINI USED TO BE all class, his hands were painted on tonight, he couldnt catch or tackle, the number on his back doesnt effect his hands.

Pearce was terrible, tell me one good thing he done tonight, any decent kicks, tackles, repeat sets, line breaks, anything, the bloke is a nuff nuff without Anasta, jones goes to 5/8 for 5 minutes, gets a repeat set and a try assist.

Pearce will never win a dally M is he cant get a team home, or control a game, everything with him is rushed or without reason, he is clueless, im happy for him to stay, he isnt the only reason we lost, but he has been a major part in us not being able to win.

You are downright deluded if you think Pearce has been going well without Anasta, his kicking game has gone backwards, his defence is the 2nd worst behind Sandow, his passing game and bision abysmal, we would be 4 points clear of last place if Anasta was fit and playing, we would have won the Tigers and Warriors games.

MOst of the others i agree with, but the Pearce babble has too stop, at the moment he is the worst halfback in the game in the worst team in the game.

I agree, most of the re-signing this year are warranted IMO.

First priority - must keep no matter what, we will build our team around these blokes for years to come:

Tom Symonds - top hole-hitting fringe backrower/centre, can also play a bit of five-eighth, plays tough, runs hard, can defend stoutly, and has a great positive attitude on the field at all times

Jake Friend - the kid is only 19 but is playing like a seasoned veteran, could develop more of a kicking game but that will come with confidence, plays WELL above his weight, great tackling workrate

Mitchell Pearce - still has a long way to go, but is only 20 and will improve out of sight, his kicking game and ability to control the match tempo is improving slowly, and his defense is outstanding

Sammy Perrett - he is the Energizer battery, seriously, he just keeps going and going, great workrate, safe under the high ball compared to before, just needs to pop up to support offloaders a bit more

Second priority - good players but still not 100% sold, deserve to stick around for the next few seasons though:

Frank-Paul Nuuausala - huge improvement this year, is doing work that O'Meley and Paea were supposed to do, developed leg drive, an offload and passing game, but needs to work on lateral defense

Mitchell Aubusson - again, a very good player, has been one of our better players in the centres, needs to get involved more, and I think a move to the pack will help him get some consistent game impact

Anthony Cherrington - an enigma of sorts, goes missing in games, but his size, aggression and mobility are huge assets, we need to get a rocket up him because he has some serious potential

Benny Jones - tries his heart out every game, has a good turn of speed, is skillful, and plays above his weight, I think he needs more minutes as a roving sort of player to get the most out of him

Martin Kennedy - showed huge promise in the U20's last year, injured for most of this season but deserves to have plenty of opportunities under Smith now that he is graduating from the NYC

Mose Masoe - another key player moving into the first grade squad from U20's next year, an injury limited him this year but he has the raw talent to become something special with good guidance

Third priority - the players under pressure, if they don't step up under Brian Smith next year, they should be cut:

Shaun Kenny-Dowall - he is in his 3rd full season, next year will be his 4th, but he is still making far too many fundamental errors for my liking, which detract from his undoubted tryscoring ability

Setaimata Sa - for all his potential, he still seriously lacks involvement, gives away simple penalties, forces passes, and then does nothing, if he doesn't blossom under Smith, he needs to be let go

Lopini Paea - with many young forwards coming through, he needed a great year this year to cement his place, but he has lacked the consistency of the past two seasons, needs to step up his game

Nate Myles - there is no question at all of his ability, but his off-field behavior is a serious issue, and if he cannot deal with this, he needs to be shown the door as soon as required IMO

James Aubusson - with the emergence of Jake Friend at hooker, and Ben Jones as a potential bench utility, Jorbs needs to find some sort of form once he returns, or else Smith might show him the door

Willie Mason - same deal, if he doesn't find the sort of inspirational form to match his mouth and paycheck, I can imagine Brian Smith being very quick to cut him loose, an in-form Mason is so important to us

Last priority - the Far Goff group, the players who the faster they leave, the better, not at all needed:

Mark O'Meley - great last year, but terrible this year, the game has passed the Ogre by, and unfortunately it happened while he was with us, on a juicy pay cheque, see you later Shrek!

Nick Kouparitsas - adds nothing when he is there, soft defender, offers zilch in attack, doesn't threaten the line or break tackles, was terrible as an interchange utility hooker too, no good

Sonny Tuigamala - was an okay winger in a good Panthers NYC outfit, but literally craps himself under the high ball, is also a hopeless defender, goes to show that pace isn't everything (e.g. Matty Rieck)

Sisa Waqa - so much for all that 'next Inglis/Folau' garbage, what an absolute dud, tried hard but lacked any playing nous, ran softly, didn't put his body on the line, and no consistency

Smith Samau - signed for depth mid-season after Javarn White left, he has played great for Newtown, but is simply not a first-grade winger IMO, hence why he can't crack a wooden spoon line-up

Iosia Soliola - 5 years to show what he had, and it actually seemed that every year he got worse and worse, he got bigger, slower, lazier, worse in defense, more errors...good riddance Soli

Stanley Waqa - Charlie Tonga the 2nd, he is good at one thing, which is tucking the ball under his arm and hitting the ball up, but FAR too one-dimensional to be a long term prospect

Matthew Hall - after being NYC regular last year, spent the whole year performing okay for Newtown, but he hasn't shown anything to convince me he has a future playing in the NRL regularly

Mark Talanoa - one of our regular U20 players, he has been terrible defensively, lacked any sort of incisiveness or spark his brother possesses, too old for NYC next year, not needed

Ray Tafokitau - another NYC centre we signed from Souths, was an absolute dud of a signing, offered nothing for all the supposed wraps he had on him, will be too old for NYC next year, not needed

Valeni Tia Tia - another of the NYC players that will be too old next year, is a huge unit with zero mobility, no fitness and little skill, just supplies good go-forward, will never be up to NRL standard

                  Undecided:

                  Riley Brown
                  Rohan Ahern
                  Iwi Hauraki
                  Luke Towers
                  Sandor Earl
                  Dylan Sharp

I will say a nice goodbye to Shack, who does try hard without being flash, but I will kiss Fitzy's feet for him to stay, he is a club legend without any doubt in my mind. He MUST stay!

...oh, and I really don't know what to think about Braith...

Good news? He at least has a bit of pace, something that can't be said for most of our outside backs.

What is happening with Tuigamala, Samau, Ahern, Earl, Sharp, Brown, and a few of the others?

that does it for me. really really talented imo. really complete fullback as well in that he can play as a ball player or the genuine support-player/hole-hitter role like mini because of his speed and ability to hit holes. Ill take stapleton off their hands if that is the case though but would rather we kept towers. Who the hell is going to be our back-up fullback then going forward. I see young blair as more of a centre, minis days are numbered so that leaves us pez

If anything, Smith should announce when he arrives that certain players are on notice IMO.

I would honestly like to see a forward pack looking a bit like:

                            Paea - on notice
                            Friend
                            Myles - on notice
                            Mason - on notice
                            Conn - on notice
                            M Aubusson

                            J Aubusson - on notice / Jones
                            Symonds
                            Warea-Hargreaves
                            Nuuausala

That way, our starting pack would be forced to really stand up. Conn would need to cement a spot in the line-up, Paea will need to find consistency or else he will be upstaged by the rookies, and Mason and Myles will have the responsibility of leading the pack.

I'd expect about 100-120 metres on average EACH from Myles and Paea, with a good 130+ average from Mason, and about 30+ tackles each from Conn and M Aubusson. Around 80-90 metres each from Nuuausala and JWH, and Symonds to not be required as a metre-eater, but rather as a linebreaker.

Plenty of reserve forwards now anyway...Kouparitsas, Masoe, Kennedy, Guerra, Takairangi, Sa.

I would honestly like to see a forward pack looking a bit like:

                              Paea - on notice
                              Friend
                              Myles - on notice
                              Mason - on notice
                              Conn - on notice
                              M Aubusson

                              J Aubusson - on notice / Jones
                              Symonds
                              Warea-Hargreaves
                              Nuuausala

That way, our starting pack would be forced to really stand up. Conn would need to cement a spot in the line-up, Paea will need to find consistency or else he will be upstaged by the rookies, and Mason and Myles will have the responsibility of leading the pack.

I'd expect about 100-120 metres on average EACH from Myles and Paea, with a good 130+ average from Mason, and about 30+ tackles each from Conn and M Aubusson. Around 80-90 metres each from Nuuausala and JWH, and Symonds to not be required as a metre-eater, but rather as a linebreaker.

Plenty of reserve forwards now anyway...Kouparitsas, Masoe, Kennedy, Guerra, Takairangi, Sa.
Mack's life is too busy (refer late night thread) but I still reckon the "Mack" should be smiths right hand man.

I'd still kick your arse Mack.
