  • A Few Good Men..

    have left the building.

I know there was a small amount of eulogising for Brian Smith on here, but I must repeat some sympathies for Steve Noyce - I'm sure he is gutted at the moment.

I wholeheartedly believe he did his best during his tenure with Easts and I still regard him as one of the best CEOs in the business. A damn good bloke into the bargain.

When Smith and Noyce were signed by the club I was over the moon, thinking they were a perfect fit.

I sense the purge that has been going on in our ranks has provided a real lift for many of our fans...its a natural common reaction that, when times are tough, wield the axe...the taller the poppy the better...its cleansing, refreshing, populist....even if it times a bit non-sensical.

The thing that rancours most with me though is HOW Nick delivers these tough decisions...it is my understanding that both Smith and Noyce were well into future preparations for 2013 with the club to swiftly have the rug pulled from under their feet.

There just has to be a better way...Nick??

I wish Brian Canavan all the best, as did Steve Noyce in his typical humble and totally honourable style. I can't help but wonder though were some of the fans celebrating this change now, previously as keen to see Brian Canavan go when he did before?

hmmm....change...brings hope, excitement..and the comfort that we have learned from past mistakes and are now addressing them.

Well done Steve Noyce...you are way too good to be out of top level administration for too long..may your next gig bring the rewards you deserve.

      very well said

Steve Noyce is not only a nice bloke, he's a very smart bloke and a very good operator, and the way he's been painted on here by some based primarily on one financially based decision to move a game is, as usual, well off the mark.

That said it's time to move on, and here's hoping these changes will have a positive effect and result in more than, as you say Jack, change just for the sake of it

I think it was more than one stupid decision taking home games away the Warriors to NZ,Knights to the Central Coast and obviously the doozie of all times playing the Cowboys in their own conditions in Darwin,he might've been a nice bloke but in my opinion wasn't a good fit or our club he never instilled me with any great confidence great to have some Easts men back in the fold.

Steve Noyce I think has done a very admirable job. I like him.

Also the work he did on Billy Gunns Benefit will never be forgotten in my eyes. So much organizing from the back end and getting sponsors onboard so we could make as much money for Billy Gunn as the lowest expense ( If any). A true gentleman. And a very dignified exit.

Having said that I am happy to see Brian Canavan back.

I never liked mr lippman. We need someone with balls who can make the most of our fantastic history and at the same time take us forward. Not sure if Canavan is that man but I know Lippman is not...

Very well said Jack. Noyce and Smith are both very decent men in my eyes. And it would appear it came as a sudden shock to both of them to be sacked as you say, when they were both well into preparations for 2013. I as you know was (am) a Smith fan and I also like Noyce. Having said all that, I think it was probably time for a change.

That draw with the Sharks was the death knell

Had we made the 8, both would still have their jobs

They are all just band aid solutions.

When the club decides to employ a football coach who has total control on all football team matters then the CEO of the club may have a chance to stamp his own style on all matters not to do with the football team.

Allowing Nick & Canavan to have a say on who we keep & who we recruit is amuter stuff. The reason why Canavan has been given a 2nd chance is becuase he is a YES man to Nick.

                        I was not.

There was drama with Smith at the Eels etc.
Noyce I always regarded as a Wests Tigers man...and couldn't see that he'd done anything 'spectacular' for them.

My friend wants to buy a $700 family package season ticket/s...can't get to discuss it with anyone at the club, and no one ever rings her back.

Brian Canavan, Scott Bennetts, and the new COO Commercial need to employ more people in the Sydney roosters office so that there's always enough staff available to answer the phones and speak with supporters.
Voice mails, "go to the website", and non-ringing people back just don't cut it in 2012 and beyond.
Where's the commitment to excellence and staff training?

Not much good moving forward if you leave your supporters and their money behind!!!
