  • SBW at Fullback?

So I was thinking about where to put him. We have three quality centres already (moga, BJ & SKD) so it wouldnt make sense to put him there. We have a good backrow as well - he would obviously be great at lock or in the 2nd row but we have a few good youngsters coming through in those positions.

What position does every other team play their best athlete? Fullback!! Imagine the power and strength of him running the ball up from the back. Sure he probably isnt the most conventional fullback but he doesnt lack speed and playing at fullback would mean he sees more ball than any other position on the field.

And honestly we dont have any great options at FB, sheck will be good in a few years but is too young atm, and we all know Mini is past it.

Anyway, this idea may seem a bit crazy...thoughts?

Your last line says it all haha. Fullback needs a whole different skillset and type of fitness for a player like SBW to play. Probably the last position other than wing I'd play him. You could have him attacking from the fullback position in the opposition 10 maybe but that's it IMO.

You be cray, Mose Masoe has a lock on FB.
It's scientifically impossible for Easts to be in Souths' shadow when there's daylight between them and us.
          Easts to win

Now you're just being ridiculous, it's quite obvious Mose doesn't have the fitness to play 80mins at fullback.
He'd need to share the No.1 with either Marty K or JWH ?

I heard an interview with Robinson a couple of days ago saying he considered putting him in the centres but wanted him closer to the action so was going to play him in the back row.

This is the reason I thought of it. Inglis is now a leaner player who although is never going to be a natural fullback still wreaks havoc from FB. His body shape and style is similar to SBW in that they are both extremely powerfull ball runners.

If people have watched any RU you would realise he is quite skillfull for his size and has the speed to play from the back.

He would be a waste in the backs.
Needs to be close to the action.

mate im with you on the $bw at the back. especially towards the mid to end of the season. once $bw has caught up to the level of the nrl and has his league abilities back , it may be a master stroke. our game of league is leaving the fat styled players out of the game and going to more of a lean fast strong player. except for prichard(almost retired) casiani, and the manly blimp.

the 1 is a roaming 5/8 in the current game. 10 years ago the 1 was more of a extra centre styled role.

second rowers were a reserve prop in build nower days are a inside centre. faster and lighter.

the game is changing to a fast hi speed style with less one one clashes but more the 2 to 3 player tackle game. why... to decrease the chance of serious injury from the 1 on 1 taCKLE. safety in numbers and dominante to slow down the play the ball.

                          Fullback - ridiculous
                          Centre - not enough ball

                          Lock is his position

Good thinking out of the box, but sorry I'm not sold on the idea at all. I think $BW needs to be in the backrow on the fringes.

Totally see why everyone is reacting the way they are It was just an idea.

I agree on your comments about him at centre. And I think he is likely going to play at lock...but Id just like to see him getting as much ball as possible, as we are paying an arm and a leg for him!
