I still stand by what I said as in he's not the quickest when getting going, looks great on the end of a backline or hitting a hole, but if he gets turned around in defence or gets the ball when standing still, it's not quite like turning the Titanic around, but it's close. I think that's the last I'll say about that part of his game, as I really do wish the young fella all the best, unfortunately he hasn't got much to look forward to in his immediate future, apart from surgery, recovering, rehab & then the much important strengthening & confidence building.
Yeah no doubt his defence needs work. No doubt it's a confidence thing though.

Have also head it may not be a full ACL tear. Fingers crossed for the kid.

Confidence will be his real issue if this seasons anything to go by mate.

By his own admission he struggled in that area, and it showed on the field IMO.

One of those things isn't it, injuries, some blokes come back and get better (Bowen comes to mind) ,some blokes never recover mentally or physically and play timid (Mose appears prone), some just develop Pappyitis (FatHodgo Mr 5 games, 3 Of them Origins a season) and some never reach the hype or expectations (Slowiola style).

Interesting to see where Moga fits into the equation. If I was a betting man I wouldn't be putting a cent on him doing a Bowen.

        The FlogPen .

        You know it makes sense.

Wow a 5 month stint means he could be ready by like round 5... If we be conservative and he makes a really good recovery, he could be playing NRL mid way through the year. Really hope he bounces back from it I was looking forward to watching him play again.

            Neither would I.

In recent times it's not uncommon for players who do ACL's at the start of the year to come back in the same season.

The problem is this is a young kid still growing and trying to make his way in first grade.

They will probably just write off the year to be safe.

They may change their stance if we get more injuries.

I think he'll be back sooner then later,,,,most of his confidence problems this year were caused by brian Smiths bad man managment so i think in 2013 he will unleash then monster within

Problem is it's a very hard injury to return from, he might be running in 4/5 months but he'll take a good 12 months to get all his movement back. Important we don't rush him make and treat it with ultimate caution.

Spoke to someone who works at the club today and said it looks like it might be similar to the injury Carney suffered at the end of the season, i.e it's not a full rupture. For those who aren't aware Carney injured his ACL in the last game of the season and is expected to start training just before the start of the season so will be interesting to watch how he returns. It's one of the hardest injuries to come back from though...

Carney did his achilles ,not his ACL..

Maybe Moga didn't do his ACL then? I just assumed Carney did his ACL given I was told they were similar injuries....

Will be passing Leichardt Stadium on my way home on Monday, might pop in and see if I can find out the truth.

Unless they mean that similarly to Carney, it was a bad injury but not the worst it could have been?

Here's Orchard's tweet yesterday too, confirms it's ACL but still says mid-year:

@MsChookiChikki @sydneyroosters Your mail is sadly good, looks like he needs ACL reco and will be out until mid-year

Probably the severity being similar as Carney's injury I believe was a ruptured achilles tendon..

Won't be a drama for Tau with the right treatment and the club not rushing him back.

After returning from an ACL rupture there is the physical recovery, but also the mental recovery. Usually takes about 12 months of playing before a player recovers full confidence, particularly a solidly built outside back like Tau. That's on top of the time out of the game from the recon.
Some people expect as soon as the player gets back on the field they will be playing just like they were before the injury. It doesnt usually work like that. It's also a bit different for forwards and to a lesser extent inside backs who don't have the same amount of high speed stepping and changing of direction or landing on one leg after catching bombs.

Luckily Tau is only young and has plenty of time. I have never had any doubt that he can be a very dangerous footballer at any level, so I look forward to his eventual return.
