Tigers recruit Braith Anasta opens up on time at Bondi, Benji Marshall, Tim Sheens and his new club
Braith Anasta has vowed to "rip in" for the Wests Tigers after revealing his final season with the Sydney Roosters was "tough, sad and unenjoyable".
Anasta also admitted he was concerned when Tim Sheens was sacked as coach and several of the Tigers' leading players walked away.
WESTS TIGERS
"This move was exactly what I needed. I had seven years at the Roosters and think I lost a bit last year," Anasta said.
"I don't know why, maybe because I signed so early with the Tigers. Last year just didn't feel right and I probably wasn't enjoying my footy.
"I think the move has come at a great time for me. I've set myself new goals, I've got new surroundings and a new coach.
"I feel like a rookie again. I feel rejuvenated, excited and comfortable. I want to train hard, play hard and rip in."
ROOSTERS
"It's tough when the team isn't going so well. You try your hardest every week, but whether you are enjoying it as you should, I'm not sure.
"Ask any of the players. When you finish where we did, you don't have the best time. It was a sad year - the realisation that you're leaving is hard to come to terms with. But I have totally moved on and know this has come at a good time for me."
BENJI FACTOR
"If Benji wants to play five-eighth, then I would play him at five-eighth," Anasta said.
"Benji is the heart and soul of the club, along with Robbie (Farah). They should play where they are comfortable.
"I am more than happy to play in the back row, lock, whatever suits the team.
"Benji and Robbie play what they see - off-the-cuff - and that's how I play my best. I don't think too much structure suits me too well."
TIM SHEENS
Sheens signed Anasta and was then sacked as coach of the NRL side.
"I have settled now, but I wasn't when I was on my honeymoon," Anasta revealed. "I came here the week before we (took a break) and you could tell all the boys were unsettled. There was a lot of speculation and the players weren't sure where they stood.
"That's never a healthy environment for a professional sports team.
"I was unsettled because I had dealt with Tim pretty much man-to-man. But Mick Potter is here and and it's settled now."
THE EXODUS
Wests Tigers allowed star players Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington to join the Sharks.
"That was really uncomfortable for me because I had just come to the club," Anasta said.
"I wasn't too happy about it, but I didn't feel responsible. But I just felt I didn't need to be here. A lot of these guys had lost a couple of their mates and quality players."
JODI'S MY ROCK
Braith Anasta and his high-profile wife Jodi Gordon have just returned from their honeymoon in Bali.
"We had a great wedding and an unbelievable honeymoon" he said. " I couldn't be happier with the life I have. I have a beautiful wife and am looking forward to the next phase of our lives. She is there 24/7 for me"
