He is actually meant to be a softy but a good administrator nonetheless.

found it interesting no 3rd party deals included in the contract, means we had cleared a fair chunk of salary cap space and if he doesn't stay we will be a major player in the transfer market for 2014.

looks like he will be here rehabing with us for a month before heading back to japan.

don't be suprised to see either a 60 minutes interview or an extended interview with Gus Gould to be aired fairly soon.
That's the way I saw it too Fletch. It came across that his heart is still very much in Rugby and while he will be extremely professional and motivated with us, we will need to have a big year to convince him to extend his stay by another year.

STUPID STUPID STUPID decision by Politis.

Great press conference - a disloyal bloke in a sling announcing a one year contract.

Robinson was impressed with him when he spoke to him in Japan. So what, even if he wasn't impressed, it was Politis's call anyway.

Great culture at the Roosters - not!

I am happy with my decision not to renew my m/ship for 2013.

my mail is SBGronk will head to WWE or TNA in 2014!!

Seriously, how many games do you reckon he will play next year?

Appreciate all the posts relating the content (thanks to Darkone in particular) and their impressions of the press conference. I am totally ambivalent about SBW and I don't like how the Roosters appear to have bent over backwards to accommodate this "rugby player at heart." Just going to have to get used to it now.

Isn't that done on purpose to avoid the Benji drama from a couple of years ago?, ie he signs for 1 year, ending the first week in October, then does whatever, making whatever cash he can. Then on 1 March 2014 he signs another contract. That way we don't have the (antiquated) salary cap implications of other earning being included in the cap.

Why would you want your 'star player' playing other sports in the off season? Every other footbaler seems to get by without it....it's not as though he needs the money is it?

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Burrow then.

Seriously, if your not going to renew your membership over 1 signing thats pretty pathetic, but each to there own i suppose.

To me its all about supporting the "club" not the individual players

Because the salary cap doesn't let the player earn their full potential. He is taking the risk by doing another sport in the offseason, because if he gets busted, then we don't re-sign him come March next year. Our risk is that our roster is not as strong compared to us 'locking in' a player on a traditional contract. SO both side have a risk/reward tradeoff.

Other 'in demand' players will be watching to see the outcome and may follow suit.

Every person has the right to earn as much money as they can, for as long as their skills are in demand.
