recently, the sydney roosters have been more or less a laughing stock, with rival teams and fans looking forward to playing us, they would look at the draw and consider playing the roosters into a bye a four point fortnight.
now they hate us.
rival teams and 'supposed' medai outlets, making up stories, even stretching the truth, in order to make us look like scum. i love it. to quote a fellow chookpenner's sig: jealousy is a curse. they hate it when we sing a big player. they hate it when other clubs fall like flies around us. theyre starting to hate how we have no more players getting into fights or sh!tting on floors. they hate us.
and i love it when they hate us.

Even if it is true that they hate us it will not win us any football games next year although I'm sure you will get a bunch of lemmings jumping on the hate bandwagon like a similar thread started about a week ago.

Manly thrive on the us versus them mentality and it's fair to say they have been pretty successful in the last few decades.

That's not to say I think the hate alone would win us games, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

WoManly, The Boggs, The Wankos, Melba, Queersland have all employed the us vs them hate game so successfully mate.

All you need is for the players to buy into the drama and self pride comes into the equation. No one likes to feel inadequate, especially in such a man love sport like RL.

For the life of me I don't know why we don't use the hate to our advantage and haven't been doing so for the last 15 years or so. IMO our clubs been too soft for too long in that area. Too quick to hose down bad press, that we will always attract anyway, with compliance and apologies. A fark you approach will only galvanize the club as a whole.

IMO Des has a very unique way that he doesn't let his mug players behaviour influence the footy team environment. He will let his players get away with anything away from the game so long as they turn up when its time to train or play.

I reckon all coaches follow that line to a degree mate, well at least did.

The truth behind a lot of the off field antics of the Wankos players, and I mean their best players, is legendary. Players used to be able to get away with a lot, especially in a city when the coaches brother is one of the chief lawmen.

The Tardpoles hide behind their friends in the media. I have 1st hand seen Gallen out on the piss during Origin camp and those that believe he's Mr Moral Nice Guy that's reformed and a genuine family man, well they believe the media line.

Poocastle players run the Hunter. JoEy is the farking Mayor.

And I've only scratched the surface, I don't have a week to write the book.

Des is good at it but IMO he'd have learnt it all from Bozo. Now the stories I've heard about that great man are legendary.

And I don't believe Des is alone in that respect. All the better coaches know that to get the best out of players they have to protect their image off the field. Some of the best players ever, well most really, have had some of the worst off field habits.

It always amuses me when people buy into the nice guy image of many RL players. It's all an image, the reality is more often than not very different.

You are correct though mate, turn up and perform every week, all the rest just melts into folk law.

I suppose that's what's amusing with the $BW questioning of his morals and actions by the media. The same people who keep using $BWs name to sell papers cover up what they know about other players actions. It's soft really, using an easy target to sell papers to the sheeple, instead of really exposing the players who are players basically. I guess they fear their own income, by questioning how others make their money. It's a funny old world.
